Material Manager

About the role
The Material Manager will oversee the material management program for the assigned local market, including negotiation of material and freight costs, inventory control, and management of supervisory roles. This position also manages overall procurement activities to ensure the best cost for all materials, freight, and equipment ordered and shipped.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support all aspects of the materials program for assigned markets.
- Develop and implement division strategic procurement sourcing and management across multiple segments; participate in negotiating supplier contracts and build strong vendor relationships.
- Manage and analyze inventory through the entire procurement lifecycle; perform cycle counts and audits for assigned markets.
- Oversee parts, shop, and warehouse operations within assigned markets, maintaining stock levels, improving efficiencies, and providing feedback to enhance operational processes.
- Actively lead contract negotiations and foster vendor relations to secure competitive advantages based on market research.
- Manage vendor performance, product quality, delivery, and cost; recognize key vendor partners and initiate long-term buying programs.
- Provide leadership, coaching, training, and development for management staff to prepare them for future advancement.
- Determine staffing levels and ensure compliance with company hiring, counseling, discipline, and termination policies.
- Foster a cooperative and harmonious working climate to maximize employee morale and productivity.
- Address and resolve employee concerns/issues in a timely manner.
- Review, evaluate, and measure employee performance against company goals and standards; recommend promotions, job changes, or compensation adjustments as needed.
- Oversee material replenishment processes for the warehouse and satellite warehouses.
- Ability to work additional hours as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or a minimum of five (5) years of related experience/training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Effective communication with customers, supervisors, and office personnel.
- Average ability to remain stationary, move, or position oneself; operate a computer, phone, and other productivity machinery.
- Ability to work under varying degrees of workplace stress and handle constructive feedback diplomatically.
- Excellent conflict resolution skills.
- Average exposure or ability to work around temperature extremes, heights, and safety hazards including fumes, dust, dirt, and noise; ability to ascend/descend a ladder.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or holidays as needed.
- Willingness to travel as required by the employer.
- Proficiency with technical software and applications related to warehousing, material management, and mechanical systems.
Pay
The anticipated pay range for this position is $66,332 USD - $102,814 USD. Actual compensation will depend on individual qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. This position may also be eligible for an annual performance bonus.
