Material Handling Specialist
Responsibilities
- Read and follow work instructions, procedures, and oral instructions to ascertain material handling tasks.
- Receive, move, handle, and issue material in storerooms and production areas by hand or with material handling equipment.
- Count and record units of materials moved, received, or removed from the shipyard.
- Enter receipts of goods, issues, disbursements, etc., into the computer system.
- Operate forklift trucks and similar light material handling equipment.
- Communicate with purchasing, production, and other departments regarding deliveries and associated problems.
- Receive material in storerooms and other stock locations, inspecting for damages, shortages, overages, or discrepancies; complete necessary reports.
- Assist in delivering material directly to delivery locations.
- Collect and file all receipt tickets and other documents as required.
- Attach identifying tags or labels to materials or mark information on containers according to procedures.
- Maintain well-organized, tidy, and clean storage areas.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum High School Degree or GED equivalent.
- Ability to follow Hanwha Philly Shipyard safety procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Competencies in self-management, thoroughness, flexibility, integrity, and teamwork.
Work Environment
Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes, and smoke. Work may be carried on indoors or outdoors and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions. The facility is tobacco-free.
Physical Demands
The physical demands include a range of motion sufficient to perform general lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, climbing, working at heights, extended walking or standing, etc. Employment is contingent upon passing a medical examination. Schedule
This is an on-site, full-time, safety-sensitive position. Standard days and hours of work vary by department and are determined by department schedules.
