Material Handling and Receiving Supervisor

The Material Handling and Receiving Supervisor (2nd Shift) is a key position leading warehouse activities. Partnering with the 1st shift supervisor and senior management, this role directly supervises Material Handling and Receiving on 2nd shift, oversees Shipping and Quality employees, and drives projects to accomplish site goals. The role manages material flow from receiving to stockroom, storage, replenishment, and ensures quality and speed of service to support business objectives. The incumbent will also partner on inventory accuracy, root-cause analysis, and may act as Site Lead in the absence of the 2nd shift Production Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, manage performance, and direct personnel to support site revenue plan and schedule.
- Conduct shift huddles to communicate daily action plans, company news, and safety alerts.
- Establish goals for the department and direct reports, including Shipping & Quality personnel.
- Ensure key value creation processes related to stockroom material movement using Oracle are documented, implemented, and staff are trained.
- Develop plans to increase the speed of material flow and reduce inventory levels.
- Partner with Warehouse Manager and 1st shift supervisors to improve inventory accuracy, facilitate accurate counts, and investigate discrepancies.
- Investigate and resolve problems from shortages/delays to minimize production downtime.
- Deploy and improve visual management in stockroom locations by practicing 6S.
- Manage execution of material replenishment from traditional to VMI or Kanban.
- Monitor and develop scheduling and inventory control techniques compatible with Lean Principles.
- Resolve discrepancies between inventory and stock-control records.
- Plan storeroom layout and design for optimal space utilization and economy of motion.
- Communicate with site personnel and management to plan material deliveries, recommend improvements, and address non-usable or excess stock.
- Ensure safe operation of material handling equipment and adherence to health and safety procedures.
- Assign duties, examine work for conformance to policies, and train employees on handling, storing, and maintaining stock.
- Drive FIFO inventory process, stacking pattern adherence, and correct bay picking.
- Enforce housekeeping and 5S expectations in the warehouse.
Requirements
- High School diploma required; Bachelor’s in supply chain or business administration preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment with increasing supervisory and management responsibilities.
- Preferred 5+ years of experience in material handling, receiving, inventory management, and improving inventory accuracy.
- Lean Manufacturing experience, Six Sigma and/or Lean Certification.
- Oracle ERP experience.
Skills
- Able to work with minimal supervision and manage complex problems and multiple priorities.
- Effectively communicate with and influence people at all organizational levels and external contacts.
- Strong problem-solving, analysis skills, and knowledge of manufacturing planning processes.
- Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Ability to work flexible hours to meet customer needs and management expectations.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Conceptual understanding of inventory control requirements and skilled in inventory analysis and problem-solving.
- Extensive coordination experience in a multi-team environment.
- Ability to drive root cause analyses.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands include standing, sitting, lifting, carrying, reaching, handling, kneeling, crouching, and bending. The employee must have the strength to lift up to 35 pounds and adequate sight (with or without corrective lenses) to read materials, judge distances, and detect workplace hazards. Functional hearing is required to detect alarms and surrounding noises. The role may require operating a forklift and sitting for extended periods at a computer station.
Work Environment
The environment is both office and manufacturing. The manufacturing environment is subject to moderate temperature changes and exposure to noise, flying debris, and overhead hazards, requiring proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). This position may require overtime as necessary.
Pay
$80,000.00 annually. This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance metrics and other criteria outlined in the applicable bonus plan.
