Material Handler - Parts Room
Brief Description
The Material Handler - Parts is responsible for moving, storing, and managing various materials for product lines and shop supplies. They play a key role in the supply chain and logistics, ensuring that products are available to the team when needed and that shipments are on time and meet quality standards. Compliance with all safety requirements, product quality standards and company policies are essential functions of this role.
Responsibilities
- Pull orders from inventory and deliver production materials and supplies where needed.
- Locate materials and supplies; may pull and verify materials with work orders.
- Maintain in-process inventory by opening and stocking materials and supplies.
- Pack and secure finished stock for shipment.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other machinery to move items, or signal machine operators to move materials.
- Keep inventory and loading areas clean.
- Receive and inspect incoming materials and products for quality, quantity, and accuracy of shipment.
- Verify inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock and investigate discrepancies or adjust errors.
- Store items in an orderly and accessible manner in warehouses, tool rooms, supply rooms, or other areas.
- Mark inventory with identification tags or other labeling equipment.
- Occasionally handle documentation of sales orders, bills of lading, and shipping orders to route materials.
- Perform cycle counts to ensure accuracy of stock levels.
- Avoidance of other assigned duties as needed.
- Serve as back-up purchasing agent.
- Accurately identify a majority of new or used product line parts and accessories.
- Ability to assist department with little oversight.
- Ability to work with vendors.
- Gather quotations if needed.
- Reconcile purchase orders and audit payment.
- Follow up on past due invoices.
Requirements
- HS Diploma/GED preferred.
- 3-5 years’ experience in Parts Department.
- WMS (Warehouse Management System) experience preferred.
- Basic Computer skills required.
- A proven track record in safety excellence is required.
- Adhere to all safety and environmental compliance regulations set by the organization.
- Notify management immediately of any safety concerns, hazardous conditions, or injuries.
- Ability to read and interpret sales orders.
- Meet department and production goals set by supervisor.
- Ensure product quality meets company and client expectations.
- Possess a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, problem-solving abilities, cooperative attitude, strong attention to detail, and can work in a team environment.
- Adhere to the company’s employee handbook policies and embody the organization’s core values.
- Ability to learn other department job functions and fill in as needed.
- Complete company compliance and safety training when required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and work under pressure in a fast-paced work environment.
Physical Requirements
- Lift 50lbs floor to waist and waist to shoulder multiple times.
- Standing and walking for long durations.
- Bending, squatting, and kneeling multiple times for long durations.
- The ability to climb up and down a ladder multiple times.
- Balance and stand on a ladder with three points of contact for extended periods of time.
- Comfortable working in the heat and cold due to manufacturing facilities not being climate controlled.
