About the role
A fast-paced, independent position focused on receiving, inspecting, unloading, and storing raw and finished goods. The role requires diligent, safe work and the ability to maintain an organized storage area while staging materials for production. Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and unload deliveries of supplies and raw materials; complete all receiving transactions accurately.
- Interact with ERP system to record transactions.
- Organize and maintain raw material, processed bar, racks, panels, and other inventory items.
- Stage material in work centers and place finished material in proper inventory locations.
- Replenish stock materials throughout the workday as needed.
- Assist with periodic cycle counts.
- Operate industrial lift truck and crane hoist to load or move materials and products.
- Dispose of scrap materials as necessary.
- Maintain quality standards and keep personal and common work areas clean and organized.
- Use hand and power tools safely.
- Read production schedules and plan material use to support operations.
- Comply with all operating procedures, instructions, and safety rules.
- Communicate effectively with team members, especially during shift changes.
- Report quality issues to operators, line leads, or supervisors.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to safely operate material handling equipment, including tow motor and overhead crane (Jib crane and Gantry crane experience is a plus).
- Proficiency in reading and understanding both metric and standard tape measures.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division by 10s and 100s) without a calculator.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to write short notes or memos.
- Driven team player who takes initiative to learn and grow, motivates others, and values group dynamics.
- One or more years of prior material handling experience with a steel or aluminum manufacturer preferred.
Physical Demands
- Repetitive movement tasks requiring standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, and grasping for long periods.
- Regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds using proper techniques or assistance.
Work Environment
- Production floor setting with regular exposure to noise, dust, heat, and cold.
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required.
- Exposure to machine and tool hazards; strict adherence to safety rules and standards is essential.
