About the role

Evergreen Goodwill of Northwest Washington is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1923 that provides free job training, education, and placement across King, Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom and Kitsap Counties. The organization operates five job-training centers, 23 retail stores, and more than 27 donation sites, employing over 2,000 people. Responsibilities

  • Unload donations from containers and move goods to appropriate production areas.
  • Remove and sort through salvage material and garbage from salable goods.
  • Sort donations into appropriate bins for further processing.
  • Provide a smooth flow of goods to the production floor.
  • Use cardboard compactors and identify problems.
  • Maintain donor tallies and a clean work environment.
  • Demonstrate safe work practices, report hazards or accidents, and support a safety culture.
  • Build and maintain internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • If forklift certified to Seattle Goodwill standards, execute duties associated with forklift operation.
  • Minors are not permitted to use heavy machinery or compactors.
  • Maintain reliable attendance.
  • Communicate effectively with others, including those with limited English skills.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • High school graduate or equivalency preferred, but not required.
  • No prior experience required.
  • If applicable, must meet eligibility requirements for Seattle Goodwill forklift certification.

Physical Abilities

  • Lift and carry up to 30–40 pounds.
  • Developed fine motor control (grasp, handle, manipulate objects with fingers).
  • Stand for long periods; frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, stooping, squatting, pushing.
  • Climb ladders and travel across a variety of surfaces (stairs, ramps, uneven terrain).

Essential Mental/Sensory Abilities

  • Organizing, sorting, categorizing, counting, adding, subtracting.
  • Problem solving and communicating with the public.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
