About the role

The Material Handler moves material around the plant or work site using a forklift and/or crane to ensure smooth production. This role may also package, band, weigh, and load/unload material, stage it accurately, build arbors, and set up machines. The position requires a self-starter with a strong work ethic and a commitment to high standards in safe and quality production.

Responsibilities

  • Move material around the plant using a forklift and/or crane for producing, finishing, packaging, or shipping customer products.
  • Ensure production areas are supplied with parts and remove finished skids to the warehouse or paint line.
  • Stage material as scheduled to optimize machine efficiency.
  • Support machines by emptying scrap tubs and clearing lines of finished product.
  • Locate material into finished goods as needed.
  • Operate basic test lines when required.
  • Package finished product for shipment and track orders with proper tagging.
  • Follow the bill of material to match product with appropriate packaging and skidding.
  • Perform finishing duties, including setup of valve and burn-off operations.
  • Execute multiple tasks to maintain ongoing machine operation.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks to ensure safe, efficient, and quality production.
  • Conduct housekeeping duties within the plant as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to handle physical, repetitive work and stand for 8 hours a day.
  • Good hand-eye coordination.
  • Mechanical aptitude is a plus but not required.
  • Competence in basic math and computer skills.
  • Ability to operate banding tools and read a tape measure.
  • Capability to handle small parts.
  • Understanding and adherence to quality policies and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize quality issues and detect defects.
  • Proficiency in reading, comprehending, and following detailed production instructions in English.
  • Ability to read and understand bills of material and production orders.
  • Capability to distinguish between part numbers and sizes.
  • Accuracy in counting and labeling parts.
  • Adherence to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Good safety awareness and efficiency skills.
  • Legible writing and oral communication skills.
  • 0-6 months of prior experience.
  • Required OSHA safety training.
  • Forklift and crane license.
  • Ability to commute to Taylor, MI 48180 (required).
  • Ability to relocate to Taylor, MI 48180 before starting work (required).

Pay

Starting pay is $20.00/hour. 2nd shift (3pm-11pm) offers a shift differential of $1.00 per hour.

Schedule

Full-time, in-person work location.
