Material Handler
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Receives, stores, retrieves, and issues electrical utility materials, tools, and equipment with limited supervision in both indoor and outdoor storage environments.
- Maintains organized warehouse and yard areas, ensuring cleanliness and adherence to 5S standards while performing regular safety inspections and equipment upkeep.
- Utilizes computerized inventory control systems (Passport) to process material receipts, issues, returns, transfers, and maintain accurate movement records.
- Inspects incoming materials for accuracy against packing lists, bills of lading, shipping manifests, and purchase orders; prepares outgoing shipments with proper packaging, labeling, and documentation.
- Operates forklifts, man-lifts, and other powered equipment to safely move, store, load, and unload materials, following proper rigging and equipment inspection procedures.
- Retrieves and issues materials based on requisitions, ensuring proper authorization and conducting sorting, cleaning, disassembly, or preparation as needed.
- Handles chemicals and materials requiring specialized storage, packaging, and safety precautions to mitigate environmental and workplace hazards.
- Assembles and maintains racking, shelving, and storage systems for efficient material organization.
Requirements
- Bridges at least one year of forklift operating experience, including current forklift certification.
- Possesses knowledge of ERP systems and handheld scanning devices for efficient material tracking.
- Has one year of materials-handling or utility material/equipment experience, or equivalent training providing the necessary skills and abilities.
- Four years of materials handling experience utilizing an electronic inventory management system.
Physical Effort/Activities
- May be required to walk up to 5 miles per day, able to be on feet for 8-10 hours at a time, able to bend, twist, push/pull, crouch, kneel in confined spaces, work at heights, on a ladder, and lift up to 50-75 pounds.
