About the role
The Material Handler at Valtris is responsible for overseeing daily operations in material handling groups. This includes packaging finished goods, preparing them for shipment, loading containers and trailers, troubleshooting loading/unloading equipment, and coordinating orders for materials.
Responsibilities
- Packaging all finished goods in containers.
- Preparing finished goods for shipment.
- Loading of containers and trailers with packaged finished goods.
- Supporting finished goods truck loading and rail car loading, printing pick lists, etc.
- Supporting all inbound raw materials unloading.
- Troubleshooting issues with loading/unloading equipment with operators as needed.
- Entering Maintenance Work Requests and following up with maintenance.
- Investigating customer complaints related to packaging and initiating corrective actions.
- Cooking orders for materials, tools, and supplies with purchasing for department needs.
- Interacting with the FRA during inspections and meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 1 to 3 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Material handling experience preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
- Basic mathematical calculations using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Ability to manually lift, push and move up to 50 lbs. throughout shift.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A desire to work with team members to improve processes and product quality in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Willingness to comply with safety and quality regulations, including wearing protective gear when necessary.
- Ability to work within an environment that requires bending, stooping, climbing, pushing/pulling, reaching (at or above shoulder height), twisting at the waist.
- Ability to work in an environment with the following conditions; chemical and mechanical operations, confined spaces, dust and fumes, working within safe proximity to forklift and machine operations, exposure to heat and humidity, hearing or talking around loud machinery, and wearing personal protective equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Must be physically able to operate variety of electronic office equipment – computer, printer, radio, phone.
- May occasionally need to lift up to 50 pounds.
- May occasionally need to bend, stoop, reach and/or twist at the waist.
- Ability based upon position and need to perform duties/visit/walk through a manufacturing environment with the following conditions; chemical and mechanical operations, dust and fumes, working within safe proximity to forklift and machine operations, exposure to heat and humidity, hearing or talking around loud machinery.
- Wearing of personal protective equipment as required.
