About the Role
A motivated and reliable Material Handler is needed to pull, load, and receive steel materials in support of operations. The role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety. Follow Triple-S safe methods of work at all times and immediately report any unsafe conditions to a supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Safely and properly move steel to and from storage, production areas, loading docks, and delivery vehicles using hand tools, forklifts, overhead cranes, or other equipment.
- Attach slings, hooks, or other devices to lift material and guide loads; climb onto vehicles to tie down and release material being loaded (continuous daily activity).
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds for up to 25 feet to heights of 5 feet; exert 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Perform physical tasks including reaching, squatting, standing, walking up to 5 miles per day, climbing stairs, ladders, and equipment while wearing required personal protective equipment.
- Apply proper bundling techniques and configure loads based on planned routes with multiple stops.
- Maximize load capacity on trailers without sacrificing safety.
- Maintain and safely operate assigned tools and equipment, including tape measures, calipers, hammers, pallet trucks, banding machines, micrometers, beam hooks, plate lifting clamps, forklifts, overhead cranes, and personal protective equipment.
- Identify and promptly report safety issues pertaining to equipment.
- Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, including precipitation, extreme temperatures, high wind, and turbulent conditions.
- Maintain spatial orientation and awareness to safely navigate work environments with moving objects.
- Judge near and far distances to maintain awareness of ongoing work activities involving people and equipment.
- Attend all required company meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments, material, or equipment needs.
- Safely meet or exceed minimum productivity levels established by the company.
- Plan and organize work activities independently or with minimal supervision; work alone and in a team environment.
- Develop a working knowledge of product and inventory control techniques and procedures.
- Maintain ongoing inter-department communications related to routing, safety, and customer relations.
- Demonstrate basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Demonstrate strong customer relations skills when required.
Requirements
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally.
- Vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Physical ability to sit, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, talk, hear, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
Working Conditions
- Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock in operations or laboratory areas.
- Moderate noise levels, occasionally high due to an open office environment.
