Material Handler

About the Role

A Material Handler orders and performs manual confirmations of materials for production orders. They verify incoming materials and supplies from vendors and warehouses, maintain inventory in their work centers, and help optimize the Bill of Materials (BOM) for cost efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Planning and Operational Duties
  • Generate reports and queries for production and vendors.
  • Communicate sales order changes, deviations, and substitutions within the area.
  • Review emails related to changes in master data pertinent to the area.
  • Review the Obsolete Parts List weekly and respond if stock exists.
  • Review the Material Adjustment Report weekly and address questions.
  • Review Inventory Reports monthly and investigate issues.
  • Maintain and update Reservation Templates for the Warehouse and/or Tool Room.
  • Communicate with Engineering on design changes, materials required, and drawing updates.
  • Organize stock in storage locations and assign “bin” identifiers in SAP as needed.
• Production Execution Duties
  • Confirm operations in each order as production is completed throughout the day.
  • Communicate and document discrepancies in order data (e.g., components).
  • Create Requests for Engineering Services (RES) as needed.
  • Update and resolve goods movement errors in COGI daily.
  • Facilitate and communicate rework and/or parts shortages for later installation.
  • Ensure goods are issued to orders that are physically installed.
• Goods Receipts and Stock Transfer Duties
  • Create Warehouse and Tool Room reservations per area requirements.
  • Verify and receive Travelers into stock upon delivery from the warehouse.
  • Track shortages and hot orders as needed.
  • Update reservations due to over-picking from the warehouse.
  • Follow up on missing or late travelers.
  • Verify and receive Purchase Order items into stock upon delivery.
  • Communicate discrepancies with the Purchasing agent, including substitutions.
  • Submit paperwork (STO/Packing Slip) to Accounting—sign, date, and include material document number.
  • Correct receiving testing failures from the Accounting department.
  • Transfer stock to other areas/plants as needed.
  • Ensure all material movements correspond to SAP entries.
  • Create inventory for parts cut at the laser and sent to vendors or stock floors/POs.
  • Create Production orders for cut parts.
  • Transfer to Vendor in MIGO.
  • Confirm Chassis to unit and install paperwork.
  • Create Manual Purchase Requisitions for materials not kept in the Tool Room.
• Inventory Management and Cycle Counting Duties
  • Organize, count, and enter/post inventory counts (twice yearly).
  • Prepare count sheets in SAP prior to the count date.
  • Maintain bulk inventory sheets on the P: Drive (add new/delete obsolete parts).
  • Perform regular cycle counts based on:
    • Cycle Count Indicator assigned to each material (per its value).
    • Requests from the warehouse in response to material shortages.
  • Block stock of materials that cannot be used or are designated for a specific purpose.
  • Process stock of damaged or defective materials using appropriate movement types.
  • Request Authorization for Disposal of Obsolete Inventory.
  • Scan each count sheet and save on the P: Drive by Material Doc#.
  • Scan each STO and save on the P: Drive by order #.
• Other Duties (May Vary)
  • Pull parts for production.
  • Load trucks for vendors.
  • Maintain Tool Parts and stocked cabinets.

Requirements

• Ability to lift and/or pull 25-50 pounds (weight can be modified).
• Work in a fast-paced, repetitive environment involving climbing, walking, and twisting.
• Adhere to all safety guidelines and standards.
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Good judgment, approachable, professional, solid problem-solving skills, ability to handle multiple tasks, self-motivated, and well-organized.
• Dexterity and attention to detail.
• Ability to read prints.
• Proficiency in Excel (very beneficial).
• Basic typing and computer knowledge.
• Experience operating machinery such as forklifts (as needed).
• Production plant experience (very beneficial).

Prior experience is preferred, but Tiffin will train individuals who demonstrate a strong work ethic and can adhere to quality standards, policies, and safety protocols.
