About the role

The Materials Handler supports production workers by performing duties that require less skill, including supplying or holding materials or tools and cleaning work areas and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties in a safe manner.
  • Interact professionally with other employees and customers.
  • Work overtime as necessary.
  • Perform operations assigned by the Supervisor in accordance with Work Instructions for each line/operation.
  • Handle heavy loads and operate mechanical equipment such as forklifts to transfer materials across various jobs.
  • Move, manipulate, modify, and/or assemble materials to produce subassemblies or finished products from raw materials.
  • Notify supervisor of any mechanical or material issues.
  • Conduct final inspections to ensure quality of packaging and proper count.
  • Assemble cartons (e.g., corner posts, tops) and band as required to meet customer specifications.
  • Fill out log sheets documenting part numbers and quantities to be transported.
  • Operate forklifts to place packaged goods into inventory and load/unload trucks.
  • Sort and dispose of rework, scrap, or returned goods, including necessary paperwork, scrap reports, or daily documentation.
  • Notify the maintenance department, Technical Services Technician, and Supervisor of any process problems and fill out necessary work orders.
  • Wear all proper safety equipment required for each operation.
  • Attach appropriate labels and tags to products and packages.
  • Use manual tools as instructed to perform work.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area per 5S procedures.
  • Operate computerized label printers and affix labels on correct pallets as required.
  • Load, unload, and monitor burn-off ovens, as well as conduct final cleaning of materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting as a regular production team member when needed.

Requirements

  • Valid forklift certification.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to follow directions accurately.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Able to travel to other divisions when required.
  • Detailed and hands-on oriented.

Working Conditions

  • Physical ability to stand, lift, carry, reach, and work in non-climate-controlled areas for long periods.
  • Manufacturing environment.

Equipment Use

  • Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
