Material Handler

About the Role

Receives, stores, and distributes material, supplies, equipment, and products within the warehouse. Pulls product for deliveries. Ensures the accuracy of deliveries and that all products are delivered to the customer within the company’s time commitment while maintaining compliance with quality standards. Assigned teams and tasks will vary according to business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Reads load lists, production schedules, customer, or shipping instructions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
  • Loads and unloads trucks, verifies load lists, and moves materials and items to storage, production, service, office, or other designated areas.
  • Drives the delivery truck on the assigned route if needed.
  • Sorts and places warehouse materials or items on racks, shelves, pallets, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as location, order number, size, type, style, color, or product code.
  • Assembles customer orders from stock and places orders on pallets or shelves, marking the material with identifying information.
  • Notifies manager or coworkers of shortages, discrepancies, or anticipated needs.
  • Conducts Marvin product quality audits in accordance with the quality inspection process.
  • Performs cycle counts to verify accuracy of inventory information; maintains inventory records.
  • Arranges stock parts in specified sequence for assembly by other workers.
  • Uses computer to verify order information, such as expected receipt date, product type, color, or quantity.
  • Operates radio frequency scanners.
  • Drives/operates material handling equipment (e.g., cherry picker, forklift, wheeled carts) upon certification.
  • Prepares parcels for mailing or third-party delivery service.
  • Works in a way that prevents damage to the product.
  • Meets company safety requirements by keeping work area neat and clean, following safety precautions, and wearing required safety apparel (e.g., shoes, safety glasses, fall protection) and reporting any safety concerns to supervisor.
  • Promotes and facilitates continuous improvement activities in the department.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and comply with the company's Fleet Safety Policy.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and dependable work history.
  • Prior delivery experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily; reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Skills

  • Computer Skills: Familiarity with computers preferred; may be expected to develop proficiency in proprietary software (e.g., PQM, OMS) and/or company email systems (Outlook).
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written English language skills; good customer service skills (in person and via phone).
  • Professional Skills: Team player with a strong desire to learn and promote self-growth; proactive, self-motivated, and able to follow assignments through to completion; attention to detail; ability to develop trust, respect, and confidence of customers, coworkers, and managers; clean and neat physical appearance.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s; perform calculations using units of money, time, measurement, etc.; calculate proportions, percentages, area, length, width, height, and depth.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand/walk and use hands to handle or feel, especially with use of the phone and computer.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, talk, or hear, especially when using the telephone and attending meetings.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more with assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Repetitive body motions may be required.
  • May be required to perform tasks 1-2 stories above ground.
  • Time commitment varies with seasons and business needs; some overnight travel may be required.

Work Environment

  • Work environment includes company warehouse facilities, delivery vehicle, and customer job sites.
  • Noise level typically moderate to loud.
  • Temperature fluctuates with seasons.

Post-offer background check, MVR, DOT physical, and drug screen required.
