Material Handler

About the role

The Material Handler position is based at the Leonard Mt. Airy, NC Distribution Center and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of forklifts to move, stack, and organize shed components and truck accessories within the warehouse or production area. This role supports the smooth flow of materials and timely production of products. This position reports directly to the Warehouse Manager and does not have direct reports.

Responsibilities

• Operates forklifts in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines.
• Moves and stacks materials, including shed components and truck accessories, within the warehouse or production area using the forklift.
• Loads and unloads materials from trucks or other storage areas, ensuring proper stacking and securing of items.
• Assists in maintaining accurate inventory records by tracking the movement of materials and reporting discrepancies.
• Conducts visual inspections of materials being transported, identifying and reporting any damages or issues.
• Works closely with warehouse and production teams to ensure timely and accurate material movement as needed for production schedules.
• Conducts routine inspections of forklifts, reporting any issues, and ensuring that equipment is well-maintained and in good working condition.
• Follows standard operating procedures and guidelines for forklift operation and material handling.
• Promotes a culture of safety in the workplace, reporting any safety hazards or concerns promptly.
• Implements and oversees safety programs, conducts training sessions for drivers, and enforces safety protocols to minimize accidents and ensure compliance.
• Generates regular reports on fleet performance, maintenance activities, and budget adherence, providing insights for continuous improvement.
• Performs other duties as assigned; responsibilities may change at any time with or without notice.

Requirements

• Valid forklift operator certification.
• Proven experience as a forklift driver in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of forklift safety procedures and best practices.
• Must pass a drug screen.
• Detail-oriented with good organizational skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to complete assigned tasks independently and as part of a team.
• Positive attitude with a can-do mentality.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to operate a forklift safely and efficiently, including navigating and maneuvering in confined spaces.
• Physical strength and stamina to lift and carry heavy materials during loading, unloading, and stacking.
• Visual acuity and attention to detail for inspecting materials and ensuring proper stacking.
• Mobility and agility to move around the warehouse or production area.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and withstand extended periods of standing, walking, and operating the forklift.
• Overall good physical health to meet the demands of forklift operation and material handling tasks.

Pay

Between $16-$17 per hour.
