Material Handler
About the role
As a Material Handler-Warehouse Operator at DSV, you will operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to support shipping, receiving, and picking activities. You will be responsible for moving, staging, replenishing, and stacking products, as well as counting and inspecting goods to ensure accuracy and report any damages or discrepancies. This role is critical to maintaining the safe and efficient operation of our warehouse while adhering to company objectives in performance, safety, and quality.
Responsibilities
- Shipping: Load outbound shipments using gas or electric forklifts, move products, and stack materials efficiently and accurately according to doors and trailers. Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all shipping functions.
- Receiving: Unload inbound shipments, move products, replenish, stack, and store materials in designated areas. Ensure products are placed accurately and follow SOPs for receiving.
- Picking: Accurately pick orders to fulfill client demands using forklifts. Stage products in appropriate areas, and stack, package, band, shrink wrap, and label products as required by client specifications. Follow SOPs for all picking functions.
- Quality Control: Use appropriate documentation to verify that products and orders are received, handled, and shipped correctly. Inspect products for quality, report damages or discrepancies, and ensure proper packaging and labeling. Follow SOPs for quality control.
- Safety, Housekeeping, and Compliance: Execute all safety protocols and perform job tasks in a manner that promotes safety. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the facility, including work areas. Comply with SOPs, corporate and site-specific policies, safety rules, and OSHA/MSDS standards.
- Equipment Operation: Operate equipment such as sit-down, stand-up, and reach trucks, sweeper scrubbers, scissor lifts, cherry pickers, Aisle Masters, or pallet jacks safely and efficiently. Perform daily inspections and minor maintenance on equipment, and report any issues. Maintain an active forklift certification.
- Maintenance: Perform or assist in building, grounds, and equipment maintenance as assigned.
- Other Duties: Perform additional duties as assigned, including working overtime as dictated by business needs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- 6 months of experience working in a logistics, distribution, or relevant environment.
- Ability to operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
- Satisfactory completion of a forklift training program.
- Ability to work in unregulated warehouse temperatures, which may range from mild to moderate during warmer and colder months.
Skills
- Computer Skills: Basic computer skills, including the use of RF scanners and Warehouse Management System (WMS) functions.
- Language Skills: Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and verbal communication).
- Mathematical Skills: Basic to intermediate level to verify product quantities, count inventory, and perform other duties related to handling and distributing products.
- Other Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to accomplish job tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
- Adaptability to change and ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience working in a warehouse, logistics, or distribution environment.
- 1-3 years of forklift experience.
- Current or prior MHE certification.
Physical Demands
- Occasionally: Handling/fingering, sitting.
- Frequently: Bending.
- Constantly: Walking and standing.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull 21-50 pounds.
- Ability to reach above shoulder, reach outward, squat, or kneel.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is rarely exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic, or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
Pay
The expected base pay range for this position is $18.00 – $22.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.
