Responsibilities
- Review and unload freight both manually or with equipment such as forklifts
- Receive and unload freight both manually or with a forklift
- Verify quantity and quality of orders to ensure that the correct number have been received or are being shipped according to purchase orders
- Inspect for damaged goods
- Wrap, package, and ship orders; cross-training in shipping tasks
- Administrative tasks include:
- Attaching identifying information and delivery instructions on containers
- Organize records of goods as required
- Complete any daily required receiving logs
- Determine storage areas for incoming shipments and allocate appropriate space within the warehouse
- Assist moving incoming items to designated storage areas or staging materials for departments as required
- Review work orders to determine order picking activities and pick orders according to the specific instructions provided; quality review to confirm the order matches the picked items
- Operate forklifts in a safe manner to pick materials and transport them to designated area
- Assist in loading and unloading trucks and determining safe ways of stacking items on the truck and retrieving items in a safe manner
- Record damaged or defective items and replace them according to company policies
- Ascertain that all incoming shipments are properly labeled and that correlating documents are available with each order received
- Compare the amount and identification numbers of goods against orders
- Maintain shipping/receiving area to standards of operation to assure the area is not a safety hazard
- Work cohesively within a team environment and on cross-functional projects as assigned (e.g., Safety Committee, Inventory or Plant Specific projects)
- Cross-training in shipping tasks
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED
- 1+ years’ experience in shipping, receiving or manufacturing, preferred
- Must have 1 year of forklift driving experience
- Able to read, write English, follow verbal instructions and use basic math (e.g., adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing)
- Must have basic computer skills to perform the administrative aspects of the position
Physical Requirements
- Lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs
- Bend, stoop, lift and move objects weighing over 50 pounds
- Stand, sit and walk continuously for 8+ hour day
- Work in varying weather conditions inside the plant based on outside temperatures
- Clean and maintain a safe working environment
