About the role
As a Material Handler, you will load, unload, process, and store hazardous and nonhazardous waste materials at a permitted waste treatment facility under supervision. You will prioritize health and safety by adhering to policies and maintaining safe practices.
Responsibilities
- Load, unload, and process solid and liquid waste safely in accordance with Company, Federal, State, and Local rules and regulations
- Operate a fork truck and Bobcat with attachments
- Direct liquid waste through a system of pumps to tanks for storage
- Perform basic spill cleanup and housekeeping duties as directed
- Perform chemical compatibility checks to prevent reactions and other issues
- Utilize barcode system equipment to document inventory activities
- Review laboratory data to determine proper handling and disposal of materials
- Use Department of Transportation (DOT) knowledge to match and label inbound materials for storage and shipping
- Utilize proper equipment to remove samples of materials for analysis and compatibility checks
- Operate a hydraulic baler for cardboard and other materials
- Maintain operating areas, walls, pipes, and floors in a clean and safe condition
- Utilize knowledge of applicable EPA, DOT, OSHA, and permit regulations
- Utilize Arcwood coding and labeling systems to handle and manage containers
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including boots, gloves, suits, eye/ear protection, and a respirator
- Take on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization
Requirements
- High-school diploma or equivalent (required)
- 1+ years of related experience (required)
- 40-hour HAZWOPER certificate (preferred)
Schedule
Sunday through Tuesday and every other Wednesday, 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM
