About the Role
The Material Handler plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient flow of materials within the construction environment, directly impacting project timelines and overall operational success. This position involves accurate receipt, storage, and distribution of construction materials and equipment, maintaining organized inventory levels to support ongoing construction activities in the Fort Lauderdale area.
Responsibilities
- Operate material handling equipment such as sit-down forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks to move materials safely and efficiently within the warehouse and construction sites.
- Perform order picking and packing duties accurately to prepare materials for shipping or delivery to various construction locations.
- Receive incoming shipments, verify contents against purchase orders, and inspect materials for quality and damage.
- Maintain organized storage areas and update warehouse management systems to reflect current inventory status.
- Assist operations by supplying necessary materials, tools, and equipment to ensure continuous workflow.
- Work overtime as needed to meet project deadlines and support peak operational periods.
- Utilize bar code scanning technology to track materials and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize material handling tasks and resolve logistical issues.
- Drive when required to deliver and/or retrieve materials.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience operating material handling equipment such as pallet jacks and hand trucks.
- Basic knowledge of warehouse management systems and bar code scanning technology.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, carrying, and standing for extended periods (ability to lift 100+ lbs).
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible shifts as required.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
- Successful pre-employment drug and agility tests, background check, and random drug/alcohol testing as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in the construction industry or a related field.
- Familiarity with shipping/receiving protocols.
- Certification in forklift operation or other material handling equipment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with warehouse management software.
- Basic computer literacy.

Schedule
