Job Summary
The Material Handler will be responsible for using various equipment to move materials, parts, assemblies, and finished products within a plant, office, or warehouse. They will maintain records, develop basic skills, and adhere to standard operating procedures and quality guidelines.
About the Role
This position is located in Canaan, CT and is a 12-month contract role with 40 hours per week. The client is a medical device company that manufactures and sells medical devices, providing consulting and analytics services in certain geographies. It is one of the first companies to sell U.S.-made glass syringes and ranked #195 in the 2019 Fortune 500 list. It was also listed among the top 100 companies in Newsweek's 2009 Green Rankings.
Responsibilities
- Moves materials, parts, assemblies, and finished products using forklifts, conveyors, cranes, handcarts, and power trucks.
- Maintains records as required.
- Develops basic skills in material handling and management.
- Works within established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and adheres to quality guidelines.
- Works under general to limited supervision.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Zero to one year of warehouse experience or related experience.
- Basic skills training in an analytical or scientific method or operational process area.
- Effective communication skills to understand co-workers and supervisors.
- Basic reading, writing, and mathematical skills.
- General computer skills.
Skills
- Ability to operate in a metrics-driven environment.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
- General physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
Physical Demands
- Regularly exposed to episodes of walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, balancing, climbing, lifting, crouching, reaching, pulling, pushing, grasping, talking, hearing, twisting, and repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, or fingers.
- Lifting and/or moving over 50 lbs.
- Exposure to work near moving mechanical parts, extreme weather conditions, and vibration.
- Occasionally works in high, precarious places and fumes or airborne particles.
- Hot conditions in summer and cold conditions in winter.
- Moderate to loud noise levels in the work environment.
