About the Role
Prepares and packages fiber optic cable for shipment, bag/box and package orders per customer specifications. Works as a team member to organize and stage outgoing freight for carriers to pick up daily. Communicates with other departments daily to solve problems and uses good judgment to minimize shipping errors.
Responsibilities
- Lift, move, sort, or place pallets, boxes, and items from bin locations to staging areas, build areas, pallets, or crates.
- Securely band and/or wrap pallets and crates in a timely and accurate fashion.
- Load outgoing shipments on trucks daily.
- Compare data sheet to the picking ticket and accurately record information.
- Ensure inventory and labeling accuracy for items to be packed, palletized, and shipped.
- Compare information, counts, weights, or measures of outgoing shipments to verify against bill of lading or other records.
- Match address labels to tags on cable and label correctly; determine if the cable needs a UL label and attach accordingly.
- Process small packages through FedEx and UPS software.
- Assist in daily team projects as needed; actively participate in quarterly inventories.
- Use wireless RF device or desktop computer.
- Promote service excellence and quality; provide excellent service to customers, build strong relationships, and focus on quality and positive solutions.

Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1 year of experience in shipping preferred.
- Computer and organizational skills with the ability to properly package, inspect, and ship product.
- Ability to read and follow basic instructions, understand and implement quality procedures.
- Math and handwriting skills required to correctly complete all documentation.
- Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
- Pay close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and recognize and help resolve problems.
- Ability to operate a forklift, sit-down forklift, 2-wheeled cart, and pallet jack.
Working Conditions
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk, sit, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Ability to manually move and lift 50 lbs. regularly and frequently up to and over 100 lbs.
- Sight sufficient for significant reading and computer use, including color vision.
- Hearing sufficient for communication with co-workers and external truck drivers.
- Moderate noise level in the work environment.
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Must follow all safety procedures and policies.
Pay
$16.75 – $30.02 per hour. Individual compensation is determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, internal equity, and business needs.
Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
