About the role

Join Vulcan Industries as a Material Handler III in our packing department in Moody, AL. You will play a crucial role in ensuring efficient material movement, storage, and handling that supports our high-quality production and timely delivery standards. This position requires proficient operation of power-driven forklifts, including stand-up electric forklifts, to maneuver products and materials safely and accurately throughout the plant. You will work closely with inventory and packing teams to process raw materials and finished goods, verify quantities, tag items appropriately, and assist with routine inventory controls.

Responsibilities

  • Operate power-driven forklifts safely and proficiently, ensuring adherence to all established safety and operational guidelines to prevent accidents and maintain a secure workplace.
  • Conduct thorough daily safety inspections of forklift and material handling equipment to identify any maintenance or repair needs; report findings promptly to supervisory staff.
  • Perform manual stacking and unstacking of materials in designated storage and production areas, ensuring materials are securely positioned and accessible for downstream processes.
  • Accurately measure, weigh, tag, and label products and raw materials to facilitate inventory control, shipment processing, and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist inventory teams with semi-annual physical inventory counts, verifying stock levels and correcting discrepancies through careful documentation and communication.
  • Utilize barcode scanning technology to transfer materials, allocate work orders, and update inventory management systems with real-time data, supporting accurate tracking and reporting.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality, demonstrating reliability and commitment to team operations and production schedules.
  • Adapt to additional duties as necessary, including operating production equipment and providing support during packing operations, contributing to overall departmental efficiency and flexibility.
  • Stay vigilant at all times in high-traffic areas with numerous pedestrians, exercising exemplary situational awareness to ensure operational safety for all personnel.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and other departments to coordinate materials handling and resolve any operational issues efficiently and collaboratively.

Requirements

  • Minimum one year of forklift operation experience, with preference given to those skilled in stand-up electric forklifts.
  • Basic arithmetic proficiency, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, to accurately handle measurements and inventory tasks.
  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and compare numerical data and written instructions for precise material handling.
  • Effective written communication skills for documenting and tagging materials.
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written, to enable clear communication within a multicultural team environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent educational qualification is required.
  • Capability to obtain and maintain in-house forklift certification, demonstrating compliance with safety regulations and operational standards.
  • Strong focus on safety protocols, attention to detail, and the ability to operate multiple pieces of equipment responsibly.
  • Good physical stamina to perform manual stacking, unloading, and other material handling duties in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
  • Dependability and a positive attitude towards punctuality, teamwork, and following standard operating procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using barcode scanners and computerized inventory systems to manage work orders and track materials.
  • Familiarity with warehouse layouts and inventory storage best practices.
  • Ability to adapt to varying operational responsibilities, including assisting with packing tasks or operating production machinery when required.
  • Strong situational awareness and the ability to multitask safely in busy, pedestrian-rich environments.
