About the Role

This position is responsible for accurate receiving, storing, shipping, repackaging, and palletizing of product to meet company standards of sanitation, safety, security, and productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Pick and pack (order picking and/or assembly of products in less than full case lots).
  • Perform light assembly (mechanical or electrical component parts or sub-assemblies using hand tools).
  • Record storage and repack or re-box cases per customer instructions.
  • Repair and recoup damaged goods as required.
  • Count all product, compare to manifest, and check shipments for damage, infestation, and production code dates.
  • Report shortages, damages, and miss-shipments on appropriate forms.
  • Sign for inbound shipments when necessary.
  • Unload inbound shipments safely and move product to storage locations.
  • Efficiently stack and store merchandise.
  • Ensure correct number and type of product is picked; verify outgoing shipments for completeness and accuracy.
  • Transport orders to shipping locations or delivery platforms using material handling equipment.
  • Stencil, tag, or mark orders as required.
  • Perform labeling, sorting, wrapping, packing, and repacking as needed.
  • Accept signatures for outbound shipments as necessary.
  • Efficiently move product into trailers, rail cars, or containers.
  • Assist in physical inventories and cycle counts; ensure proper stock rotation.
  • Operate shrink-wrap machine.
  • Charge forklift battery/gas tanks as needed; repair pallets; clean railcars, trailers, and truck bays as requested.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and present information in one-on-one or small group settings.
  • Basic mathematical skills: add/subtract two-digit numbers, multiply/divide by 10s and 100s, and perform operations using American units of money, weight, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions and deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to learn and use software applications such as move management, timekeeping, HRIS, and RF scanners.
  • Prioritize tasks and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Physical Demands

  • Stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel over 2/3 of the time.
  • Sit 1/3 to 2/3 of the time.
  • Reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl over 2/3 of the time.
  • Talk or hear over 2/3 of the time.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Capable of standing and walking for extended periods (at least 2 hours straight, four times in an 8-hour day).
  • Frequently twist, stoop, squat, reach above shoulder level, and crouch.
  • Use hands and feet simultaneously and for repetitive movements.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with fingers, and perceive object attributes.

Special vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

  • Outdoor and indoor shop environment with adequate ventilation.
  • Exposure to vibration, improperly illuminated or awkward work spaces, and working above ground level with risk of falling.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying of items; loud noises typical of a warehouse setting.
