About the role

This position supports our NAS A customer on the Marshall Engineering Technicians and Trades Support contract (METTS). The Material Expediter is responsible for preparing and arranging materials and products in bulk and non-bulk forms for distribution or storage; moving and loading or unloading equipment, materials, and products; operating or tending pipelines, pumps, and valves to transfer liquids; driving forklifts and related material-handling machinery and equipment; and using scoops, hand trucks, and wheelbarrows to load and move materials.

Responsibilities

• Locate and move materials and parts between work areas using carts or hand trucks to expedite processing of goods.
• Use pre-determined schedules and priorities to manage materials and keep related records.
• Review production schedules, inventory reports, and work orders to determine types, quantities, and availability of required material and customer order priorities.
• Confer with department supervisors to determine overdue materials and inform them of location, availability, and condition of materials.
• Record quantity and type of materials distributed and on hand.
• Direct Power-Truck Operators or Material Handling Laborers to expedite movement of materials between storage and production areas.
• Compare work ticket specifications with material at work stations to verify appropriateness of material in use.
• Prepare worker production records and timecards.
• Update and maintain inventory records using a computer terminal.

Requirements

• Experience with property/inventory management.
• Forklift operations experience.
• Ability to lift up to twenty pounds on an occasional basis.
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
• May require walking, bending, climbing stairs, stooping, lifting, and navigating shop/machine work areas.
• Must be able to bend, stoop, or lift occasionally with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Must meet eligibility for a Public Trust background investigation for government-issued credentials and IT access; must pass a security background check per Redstone Arsenal/MSFC requirements.
• Must provide two (2) forms of Federal I-9 documents and a REAL ID-compliant identification to gain access to RSA and MSFC (name must match on both forms, be original, and unexpired).

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Previous experience with NASA.

Work Environment

• Environmentally controlled, heated, and cooled shop area subject to machinery noise.
• Laboratory, test environments, test stands, and possible confined spaces.
• Occasional outdoor work.

Schedule

• This position may require occasional overtime and may include second or third shift support for 24/7 onsite or on-call support based on customer needs and contract requirements.
