Job Summary
In this role, you will support material planning and/or material coordination for a large project site. Planning will include implementation of the Material Management Plan. Coordination will include serving as a liaison between Project and Field Procurement and Construction for accurate reporting of materials. Your efforts will ensure the site receives materials required for work package installation.
Major Responsibilities
- Material Coordination:
- Performs material coordination activities at a jobsite within material discipline of responsibility to ensure the accurate reporting of material and equipment work package statuses for installation.
- Maintains direct working relationship with Project Controls, Discipline Engineers, Supply Chain, Automation Support and/or Construction Coordinator to ensure that construction personnel are provided with materials to support the completion of the construction work.
- Monitors planned inventory control mechanisms, such as min-max and bag-and-tag and uses Digital Supply Chain tools.
- Continuously performs priority allocations to ensure material availability well in advance of installation requirements.
- Captures material availability in support of design revisions, rework, contingency or work-around plans.
- Coordinates with warehouse personnel for materials to be issued direct to the installation area, as opposed to being controlled in storage.
- Coordinates the constructability look ahead meetings.
- Prepares the site constructability reports as inclusive of 30, 60, and 90-day lookaheads.
- Material Planning:
- Verifies that material requisitions clearly identify required pay items and reflect a level of detail in which materials will be shipped and identified for storage and control prior to distribution to Construction for installation.
- Maintains direct working relationship with Project Controls, Discipline Engineers, Supply Chain, Automation Support and/or Construction Coordinator to ensure that construction personnel are provided with materials to support the completion of the construction work.
- Maintains monitoring of Engineering and Supply Chain deliverable schedules to meet the construction schedule.
- Maintains monitoring of materials components aspects of the project Automation Plan.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Identify and help resolve any deviations to the Materials Management Plan and obtain approval for any changes to the plan during the execution of the Project.
- Understand the materials components of the Project Automation Plan used by functional groups and monitor related data transfers between the groups.
- Understand construction activities and the advance work package structure for the Project.
- Ensure the material identification methodology permits accurate status and distribution of materials according to the priority and sequence of construction schedule and activities.
- Work with functional groups to determine the best strategy for fabricated systems that will provide the best overall value for the Project.
- Identify any “special” or potentially lengthy approval requirements that could impact the timely issuance of the key engineering deliverables that drive the materials work process.
- Affirmative action plan (AAP) and equal opportunity plan (EOP) compliance.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.
- Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of all procurement operations related to the management of materials at area, regional, temporary and jobsite office locations.
- Knowledge of how to manage material fabricators.
- Knowledge in Field Engineering and Construction activities, and knowledge of Standard Work Process Procedures related to materials management functions.
- Knowledge of all Engineering disciplines, the work process and the deliverables produced.
- Knowledge of applicable Bechtel policies, instructions, and Procurement procedures and guidelines.
- Knowledge and experience in the use of the Digital Supply Chain System, Engineering tools and other project data systems preferred.
- Prior experience in major global, direct hire and contract management projects, which include Engineering, Procurement, and materials control activities.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and Access skills preferred.
