About the Role

Under the direction of the Master, this role assists in directing and overseeing the activities of the vessel’s senior crew, including deck, engineering, production, and safety. You will share responsibility for navigation and primary vessel activities such as fishing, processing, or hauling freight.

Responsibilities

• Assists with pre-season and day-to-day operations of the vessel.
• When the Master is off duty, operates the vessel in accordance with Trident policy and local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
• Works with the Corporate Manager and Master to lead, manage, and direct capital projects (e.g., drydocking, installation and repair projects, major purchases), including scheduling, budgeting, and compliance with license, permit, and regulatory codes.
• Assists in overseeing and establishing performance and operation standards for all vessel deck and navigation systems.
• Resolves problems using solutions that involve appropriate techniques, technologies, or concepts.
• Assists in directing and overseeing required documentation for primary vessel functions.
• Analyzes and leverages human resource needs to assist with short- and long-term projects.
• Confers with the Master to determine feasibility and cost-effectiveness of present or future projects.
• Assists with the design and implementation of training to ensure all vessel deck and engineering staff are properly trained, qualified, and in compliance with regulatory training and certification requirements.
• Provides direction and example for the interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to deck activities.
• Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed safely.

Requirements

• Must hold a valid USCG Mate License of 500 GRT or greater.
• Five years of fishing experience in the fishery being applied for.
• Working knowledge of engine room operations.
• Advanced firefighting certification.
• Advanced fishing knowledge in setting and retrieving fishing gear for the fishery being applied for.
• Splicing knowledge for lines and wire.
• Intermediate net repair skills.
• Ability to identify different species for the fishery being applied for.
• Ability to conduct safety drills for crew and guests.

Qualifications

• Extensive seafood or related industry experience preferred.
• Four to ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• Current First Aid and CPR cards.
• Appropriate licenses/permits of trade (e.g., CG license of appropriate tonnage, STCW endorsement, etc.) when required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to:

• Wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts.
• Outside weather conditions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

• Stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
• Climb or balance frequently.
• Occasionally sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
• Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Specific vision abilities required include distance vision and peripheral vision.
