Master Scheduler
About the role
The Master Scheduler develops and maintains the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) for IRAD, CRAD, and development programs across all product lines. Synchronizing inputs from business development, program management, engineering, supply chain, and test teams to align development activities, resource loading, and technical milestones within the DBTE lifecycle while supporting strategic growth and capability delivery.
Responsibilities
- Lead integrated planning activities across IRAD/CRAD portfolios, aligning development priorities, resource capacity, and technical milestones over a 12–24 month horizon.
- Presenting to executive management, communicating IMS status, critical path, resource constraints, and development progress against objectives.
- Build, publish, and maintain fully resourced Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) for development programs, including engineering, prototyping, integration, and test activities, constrained by labor, facilities, test assets, and long-lead materials.
- Integrate DBTE lifecycle phases (design, build, test, evaluate) into executable schedules, ensuring traceability from requirements through test and validation events.
- Cooking engineering development efforts, including design iterations, prototyping cycles, and configuration changes, ensuring alignment of effectivity, test readiness, and incremental capability delivery.
- Conduct ongoing scenario analysis and “return-to-green” planning when schedule risk emerges (design delays, test failures, resource conflicts, material constraints), proposing recovery options and trade-offs across cost, schedule, and performance.
- Monitor adherence to the IMS, track key metrics (schedule performance, critical path health, milestone achievement, SPI/CPI where applicable), and drive corrective actions with engineering, test, and program teams.
- Partner with engineering and supply chain to ensure development materials, prototypes, and long-lead components are planned and available to support DBTE execution timelines.
- Partner with program management and finance to align IRAD/CRAD burn plans, resource loading, and schedule phasing with funding profiles and investment strategies.
- Provide regular schedule status, risk, and critical path updates to leadership, supporting internal reviews, customer engagements, and strategic planning efforts.
- Support internal and external reviews related to development planning, scheduling rigor, and compliance with applicable government and company standards.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Proficiency with scheduling and planning tools (e.g., MS Project) and ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Infor LN, SAP, Oracle, or similar), with advanced Excel skills for data analysis and scenario modeling.
- Familiarity with agile planning and collaboration tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence) to integrate engineering execution and requirements into Integrated Master Schedules.
- Strong understanding of Integrated Master Scheduling (IMS), critical path analysis, resource loading, and schedule risk management within development environments.
- Familiarity with DBTE lifecycle execution, including engineering design, prototyping, integration, and test activities.
- Ability to interpret engineering documentation, requirements, and configuration changes and translate them into executable development schedules.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills to influence engineering, program management, supply chain, and leadership teams.
Education / Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience often accepted. Master's preferred.
- PMP or similar scheduling/program management certification preferred.
Experience
- 7+ years in scheduling, program planning, or related roles, with aerospace or defense experience preferred.
- Strong experience building and managing Integrated Master Schedules for development, IRAD, CRAD, or engineering-to-order programs in complex environments.
- Experience supporting DBTE workflows, including design, build, integration, and test phases, with an understanding of iterative development cycles.
