Master's of Social Work (MSW) Intern
About the role
The Palm Beach County Public Defender's Office, 15th Judicial Circuit, seeks two unpaid/volunteer MSW students to assist with client services. This internship provides hands-on experience in social work, including case management, interviewing, and assessment.
Responsibilities
- Shadow a mental health social worker to learn case management, interviewing, and assessment skills.
- Work with juvenile probation cases to motivate offenders to complete probation requirements and potentially achieve early termination.
- Assist attorneys and clients in various ways based on individual needs, available community services, and the nature of the case.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled as a first-year MSW student at an accredited institution.
- Must have prior approval from the school.
- A minimum of 16 hours per week is required.
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Interest in public service and social work.
Skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Basic understanding of legal terminology and procedures.

We accept two, first-year MSW students throughout the year. We have MOUs with FAU, LSU, and Tulane University. Prior approval from the school is necessary. A student of any other college or university is welcome to apply. Prior approval from the school is necessary. A minimum of 16 hours a week is mandatory. We also accept volunteers if the program is not filled by students, no college credit is earned.
