Master’s Level Internship Program Overview

The Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services offers a one-year Master’s Level Internship Program for students in Counseling, Psychology, and Social Work. This program supports emerging clinicians as they transition from academic training into professional practice through structured, supervised clinical experiences.

Program Structure

• Follows a developmental learning model progressing through four stages:
• Organizational and departmental onboarding
• Supervisor-led sessions with intern observation
• Intern-led sessions with supervisor observation
• Increased independence with ongoing supervisory oversight

Master's Level Intern – Outpatient Clinical Therapist

What Will You Do?

• Participates in the interviewing and assessment of persons served
• Selects and completes appropriate therapeutic interventions based on clinical knowledge and educational background
• Collaborates with other treatment team members regarding patients' progress
• Ensures compliance with medical record documentation protocols
• Enters progress notes into medical records on a timely basis
• Coordinates services and community resources as needed
• Participates in departmental and staff meetings
• Serves on programs or organizational committees as required
• Maintains all Michigan licensure requirements
• Buils knowledge of current trends and developments in treatment and counseling
• Fulfills continuing education requirements
• Conducts education and training programs for persons served, families, or community groups
• May conduct research
• Supports and promotes a recovery-focused environment and person-centered approach

What Does the Role Require?

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Master’s level program in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work
• Notifies Pine Rest of any changes in enrollment status
• Complies with all standards and bylaws set by government agencies as well as Pine Rest
• Maintains all Michigan licensure requirements
• Completes continuing education requirements as per PRCMHS departmental policies
• Participates in education and training programs for persons served, families, or community groups
• May conduct research
• Supports and promotes a recovery-focused environment and person-centered approach within the program
