About the role

EMI Service is hiring a Master HVAC Technician to support mission-critical infrastructure at Camp Lejeune. The Master HVAC Technician installs, modifies, and repairs a wide range of refrigeration and HVAC systems, including hermetic, semi-hermetic, screw, scroll, and centrifugal units up to 1100 tons; air conditioning; VAV and ventilation; VRF systems; CRAC units; geo-thermal; reversible chillers; air and water-cooled chillers; process coolers; ice machines; evaporative cooling; air compressing; and related control systems (pneumatic, DDC, and building control systems). This role involves advanced installation tasks, complex system modifications, and maintenance of specialized equipment such as DOAS, MAU, and Pool Pak systems.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair various refrigerant systems, including Variable Refrigerant Flow Systems, Chillers, Reversible Chillers, and CRAC Units.
• Cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape using cutting and bending equipment; cut and thread pipe using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment.
• Join tubing or pipes to refrigerating units using sleeves, couplings, or unions, and solder joints to form complete refrigerant circuits.
• Install refrigerant valves in circuits and test joints/connections for leaks using leak detectors; verify leak-free systems using vacuum pumps.
• Test and verify proper operation of components, connecting motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and ventilation fans.
• Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units.
• Add/remove Freon to refrigerant systems to achieve proper subcooling and superheat.
• Observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to ensure proper operation.
• Wrap pipes in insulation batting and secure them with cement or wire bands.
• Install, repair, and service air conditioners up to 1100 tons cooling capacity in warehouses, barracks, and commercial buildings.
• Prepare work orders and cost materials estimates.
• Assist in training lower-level workers in mechanical repair techniques.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills

• Knowledge and proficiency in standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of commercial and industrial-grade HVAC equipment.
• Ability to perform single, technical tasks with occasional skill upgrades to meet changing job conditions.
• Skill-based competencies: operating HVAC installation/repair/maintenance equipment; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; handling hazardous materials.
• Knowledge-based competencies: indoor air monitoring equipment and data interpretation; design and construction standards; air conditioning and heating codes; safety precautions; refrigerant handling and disposal.
• Adaptability and flexibility in work situations.
• Practice workplace safety, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Requirements

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent amounts of technical training and experience.
• 10+ years of advanced experience in maintenance, repair, installation, and operation of commercial/industrial HVAC systems, including compressors, motors, burners, pumps, filters, ductwork, pipes, valves, refrigerants, and pressure vessels.
• Experience in installing, calibrating, troubleshooting, and replacing control systems.
• EPA Universal Refrigeration License.
• Valid driver’s license compliant with REAL ID Act or willingness to obtain one.
• Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
• Regular, dependable attendance; overtime available evenings and weekends.
• U.S. citizenship to obtain and maintain access to military installations.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
• Use of hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and walking.
• Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping.
• Climbing ladders and entering confined spaces.
• Work both indoors and outdoors in various temperatures (some extreme) and weather conditions.

Pay

Total compensation package: $77.16 per hour ($61.91/hour plus $15.25/hour fringe benefits for insurance and 401k).
