Mass Transfer Subject Matter Expert (SME)
Responsibilities
- Provide expert consultation in mass transfer, resolving highly complex technical issues.
- Conduct advanced troubleshooting and analysis in distillation, extraction, and related mass transfer areas.
- Design, develop, implement, and evaluate technical mass transfer solutions to ensure high-quality outcomes.
- Recommend improvements to designs and procedures to enhance quality and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineers, management, operations personnel, and business stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met and solutions align with organizational goals.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and methodologies to maintain expertise and improve engineering design practices.
- Participate in distillation inspections, including on-site inspection of distillation internals at fabricator shops, inspection of internals both internal and external to vessels including confined space entries.
- Review and approve mass transfer designs developed by junior engineers.
- Provide training and mentoring to junior engineers and provide guidance on technical challenges.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s degree, or PhD in Chemical Engineering, emphasis on mass transfer preferred.
- Experience: Extensive experience in mass transfer, with proven ability to handle complex projects and provide expert-level solutions.
- Years of experience – At least 5 years with extensive mass transfer experience (Min 5 years)
Desired Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate complex issues and propose effective solutions.
- Proficiency with engineering software (including Aspen Plus and vendor mass transfer software), tools, and methodologies relevant to process design and mass transfer.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with teams and stakeholders.
Work Environment and Reporting
- Primarily onsite position in Kingsport, TN. Work from home flexibility on Fridays as business conditions permit.
- Typically a mix of office and field settings, with occasional travel for visits to other Eastman sites, vessel/distillation internals fabricators, conferences, and training opportunities.
- On call availability at times to meet operational critical needs.
- May participate in quality assurance, energy reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives.
