Marriage and Family Therapist - Behavioral Health

About the role

Provides mental health services to Veterans as a member of the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) team. Conducts psychosocial assessments, provides crisis intervention, clinical case management, and evidence-based psychotherapy (e.g., CBT, DBT, ACT, PST, CPT).

Responsibilities

- Independently conducts assessments to evaluate psychosocial functioning and needs of patients and their families. - Provides triage assessment, crisis intervention, and counseling/psychotherapy (individual, couple, and group) for Veterans using evidence-based practice. - Coordinates care and ensures Veterans receive needed services to increase functionality, independence, and quality of life. - Sets clinical care goals, monitors progress, and works towards achieving outcomes, including reduced hospitalizations. - Collaborates on the BHIP team and intervenes in complex situations using sound judgment and appropriate resources. - Attends team meetings and works closely with patients' providers and other team members to coordinate care. - Assesses caregiver burden and develops plans to address it sensitively. - Establishes and maintains therapeutic relationships with Veterans and families from diverse backgrounds.

Requirements

- United States Citizenship: Must be a citizen. - Education: Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a program approved by COAMFTE, or a comparable mental health degree (LPCHC, Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, Psychology, Psychiatry) meeting VA qualification standards. - Licensure: Full, current, and unrestricted MFT license to independently practice marriage and family therapy in a State. - Experience: One year of post-master's degree experience in the field of marriage and family therapy work (VA or non-VA experience) or a doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy or comparable degree in mental health that meets VA qualification standards.

- Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship, non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens. - Education: Master's or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy or comparable mental health degree. - Licensure: Full, current, and unrestricted MFT license to independently practice marriage and family therapy in a State. - Experience: One year of post-master's degree experience in the field of marriage and family therapy work (VA or non-VA experience) or a doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy or comparable degree in mental health that meets VA qualification standards. - Demonstrated KSAs: Independent assessment skills, ability to provide counseling and therapy, establish effective working relationships, understand relevant statutes and policies, provide training and supervision, and use computer software applications.
