About the Role
The Animal Cause is recruiting a Marketing Strategy & Storytelling Team to help translate a complex, multi-program animal-welfare mission into campaigns that are clear, truthful, and measurable. Every animal we talk about, every claim we make, and every dollar we ask for has to hold up to that same standard—cared-for, not oversold. Current and emerging needs include organizational visibility, The Shepherd's Ark, Mercy Stage and animal visibility, partner development, foster recruitment, volunteer recruitment, fundraising, donor stewardship, website traffic, email communication, and public education.
Responsibilities
- Conduct public-channel and audience discovery before recommending major campaigns or platform rebuilds.
- Develop approved campaign briefs with objectives, audiences, messages, calls to action, dependencies, owners, timelines, and success measures.
- Support social-media strategy, email marketing, website messaging, SEO, video distribution, donor communication, volunteer recruitment, and partner outreach.
- Create editorial calendars and coordinated cross-channel plans based on actual organizational readiness.
- Establish baseline metrics and reporting for reach, engagement, conversion, mission outcomes, and operational capacity.
- Research audiences, keywords, comparable organizations, communication risks, and campaign opportunities.
- Write or edit approved copy for social posts, emails, landing pages, presentations, fundraising appeals, and partner materials.
- Collaborate with website and graphic-design teams so public materials remain consistent and functional.
- Test messaging, subject lines, calls to action, formats, and distribution methods through controlled A/B or pilot approaches.
Possible Initial Assignments
- Complete a public-facing audit of the website and current social channels.
- Prepare a diagnostic memo identifying questions, gaps, risks, audiences, and preliminary opportunities before proposing a rebuild.
- Build a 30- or 90-day campaign plan for one approved priority rather than attempting to launch all programs at once.
- Create an audience and channel map for donors, volunteers, fosters, partners, adopters, businesses, churches, and animal-welfare professionals.
- Develop campaign templates for Mercy Stage, The Shepherd's Ark, volunteer recruitment, foster recruitment, and supply/fundraising needs.
- Create an analytics dashboard and define what data must be collected going forward.
- Document workflows so campaigns can continue if any volunteer's availability changes.
Qualifications
- At least 21 years old, and a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident currently residing in the United States.
- Relevant experience in marketing, communications, campaign planning, social media, email, SEO, advertising, analytics, audience research, copywriting, or project coordination.
- Ability to complete discovery, absorb organizational complexity, and compare competing priorities before recommending action.
- Capacity to work as part of a team and accept defined authority, approvals, and resource constraints.
- Strong written communication, reliability, and respect for factual accuracy.
- Respect for confidentiality, intellectual property, organizational ownership, and the Christian mission.
Preferred Experience
- GA4, Google Ads, Search Console, email marketing, CRM, SEO, A/B testing, content strategy, or conversion analysis.
- Nonprofit, animal-welfare, cause marketing, fundraising, volunteer recruitment, or community-engagement experience.
- Experience leading a project team without assuming unilateral organizational control.
- Ability to build performance reports and explain recommendations to nonmarketing stakeholders.
- Canva, video, website, or basic design literacy sufficient to collaborate across teams.
Operating Boundaries
- Marketing volunteers do not independently select organizational priorities, launch programs, restructure channels, or make public commitments.
- Recommendations must account for program readiness, operational capacity, legal/compliance requirements, funding, and volunteer supervision.
- No animal outcome, partnership, statistic, donation result, program status, or organizational capability may be invented or overstated.
- Public posting, direct messaging, outreach, media communication, fundraising solicitation, and partner contact require written authority.
- Passwords, donor information, applicant information, unpublished plans, and internal playbooks may be accessed only when the assignment requires it.

- This is an unpaid volunteer position and does not create an employment relationship.
- Applicants must be at least 21 years old and a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident currently residing in the United States.
- Applicants must be able to work respectfully within a Christian animal-welfare mission.
- A 90-day introductory period may be used to evaluate reliability, communication, judgment, and assignment fit.
- Volunteers may be asked to sign the Volunteer Service Agreement and applicable confidentiality, intellectual-property, and public-communications documents.
- Volunteers may not speak, publish, contact organizations, make commitments, or otherwise represent The Animal Cause without written authorization for the specific role, channel, and activity.
