About the role
The Marketing Platform Architect designs scalable, data-driven marketing automation solutions to support customer acquisition, engagement, personalization, and retention. This role translates business objectives and customer data requirements into Salesforce Marketing Cloud architecture, journey logic, segmentation strategies, and execution-ready technical solutions. Reporting to the Manager, Marketing Technology & Data Activation, the role partners with Marketing, Analytics, IT, and other stakeholders to strengthen marketing platform capabilities, improve data activation, and ensure campaigns are built with quality, consistency, and long-term scalability.
As a Salesforce Marketing Cloud subject matter expert, this position provides technical guidance across Email Studio, Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Audience Builder, SQL, AMPscript, and related integrations. The role supports continuous improvement of marketing processes, platform governance, and customer journey performance while enabling more personalized and effective engagement across the customer lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Marketing Automation Architecture & Journey Strategy
- Design scalable Salesforce Marketing Cloud solutions that support customer acquisition, engagement, personalization, retention, and lifecycle marketing goals.
- Translate business objectives, audience requirements, and customer data inputs into journey architecture, segmentation logic, automation flows, technical blueprints, and execution-ready campaign solutions.
- Develop customer and enterprise journey maps identifying dependencies, requirements, prioritization considerations, suppression rules, entry and exit criteria, and overlap mitigation strategies.
- Build scenario plans, decision logic, default paths, cadence recommendations, wait times, and edge-case handling to support reliable and scalable marketing automation.
- Incorporate testing and optimization logic, including A/B testing, tracking requirements, and measurement considerations, into campaign and journey architecture.
- Marketing Data Governance, Integration & Platform Readiness
- Partner with Marketing, Analytics, IT, and other stakeholders to align Salesforce Marketing Cloud initiatives with business priorities, data strategy, and customer experience goals.
- Assess data requirements, data availability, integration needs, field usage, object relationships, and API considerations needed to support reliable campaign execution and customer journey delivery.
- Support data integrity, migration, cleansing, field decommissioning, and form optimization efforts affecting marketing automation, segmentation, journey entry sources, and customer communications.
- Develop and maintain SQL queries, automation activities, contact update processes, and journey entry source logic to support both new and existing customer journeys.
- Identify known or potential data issues that may affect marketing campaigns and partner with cross-functional teams to recommend mitigation plans.
- Personalization, Segmentation & Data Activation
- Support the use of Data 360, Marketing Cloud Personalization, and related data capabilities to strengthen segmentation, targeting, content personalization, and customer journey performance.
- Partner with analytics and data teams to evaluate customer data, behavioral signals, and audience insights that can inform targeted campaigns and lifecycle marketing strategies.
- Configure and optimize personalization approaches that enable more relevant customer experiences across marketing automation and engagement channels.
- Assess opportunities to improve segmentation logic, audience activation, recommendation strategies, and customer journey performance through available data and platform capabilities.
- Testing, Quality Assurance & Technical Execution
- Build, test, troubleshoot, and optimize Salesforce Marketing Cloud journeys, automations, dynamic content, behavioral triggers, and related technical campaign components.
- Develop and maintain SQL, AMPscript, dynamic HTML, and related technical logic needed to support accurate audience selection, message versioning, personalization, and campaign execution.
- Create end-to-end testing scenarios to validate journey functionality, audience eligibility, personalization rules, suppression logic, tracking, send readiness, and data updates.
- Support responsive email development, Litmus or similar quality review processes, API-supported workflows, and integration troubleshooting as needed.
- Assist with building and optimizing marketing forms, including Form Assembly or related intake and data capture tools.
- Platform Standards, Documentation & Cross-Functional Enablement
- Establish and maintain platform standards, naming conventions, documentation practices, quality assurance guidelines, and reusable solution patterns for Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
- Document journey architecture, data dependencies, technical decisions, testing plans, and governance considerations to support campaign consistency, scalability, and knowledge transfer.
- Provide technical guidance to marketing stakeholders and cross-functional partners on platform capabilities, solution design options, implementation considerations, and continuous improvement opportunities.
Requirements
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Digital Marketing, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business, or a related field.
- Preferred: Master’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- Experience
- 4+ years of relevant marketing technology, CRM, marketing automation, or Salesforce ecosystem experience, including hands-on Salesforce Marketing Cloud experience.
- 3+ years of Marketing Cloud experience, including Email Studio, Automation Studio, Journey Builder, Audience Builder.
- Experience with writing SQL (MS SQL) and AMPscript.
- Familiarity with HTML, XML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Strong understanding of SOAP APIs, REST APIs, and integration architectures.
- Experience working through full-lifecycle implementations and/or implementing integrated solutions including the SFMC ecosystem.
- Hands-on platform experience in Salesforce Marketing Cloud and/or other SFMC products and ecosystems.
- Experience in a technical leadership role designing, building, and executing complex automated marketing programs with Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
- Experience with both B2C and B2B marketing.
- Preferred: 6+ years of relevant marketing technology or CRM experience, including experience designing scalable, enterprise-level Salesforce Marketing Cloud solutions in complex or matrixed environments.
- Preferred: Global marketing experience and experience working in a complex matrix organization.
- Certifications
- Preferred: Salesforce Marketing Cloud certification (e.g., Email Specialist, Administrator, Consultant, or Developer).
- Preferred: Google Analytics 360, GA4, SFDC Dataroma/Intelligence, Fonteva or other E-commerce, Form Assembly.

Schedule
This position may require periodic onsite attendance, either currently or in the future, based on business needs. Occasional travel may also be required to attend company-sponsored events, meetings, all-hands gatherings, training sessions, or other activities necessary to support the essential functions of the role.
Pay
Posted Salary Range: USD $74,659.00 - USD $111,988.00 /Yr.
