Overview

The Marketing Manager leads the marketing team within the Communications and Marketing department, overseeing e-mail, social media, video, photography, and web content. They also manage ongoing and future advertising campaigns and serve as the brand manager for KCLS.

In This Position You Will Lead

  • Lead 4-5 large-scale, system-wide seasonal marketing campaigns annually.
  • Collaborate with Communications team and lead creative teams to produce promotional content and execute digital components of campaigns and KCLS storytelling in organic channels.
  • Participate in every phase of the development process, including writing creative/advertising briefs, writing marketing copy, providing creative direction and feedback throughout the review process, signing off on final approval for production, and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners throughout the organization to facilitate project intake and guide marketing strategy.
  • Plan and manage seasonal and always-on advertising campaigns across digital, print, and social media platforms in collaboration with advertising agency.
  • Lead internal creative team in concepting, developing, producing and handing off final paid media campaign deliverables, including copy.
  • Serves as a liaison between KCLS and external advertising agency.
  • Produce and oversee digital content calendar, including social media, email content, and web content.
  • Focus on brand positioning in the market and alignment with promotional goals. Provide brand management guidance to the department in the development of marketing and communications materials.
  • Create and maintain marketing processes, best practices, templates, workflows, and checklists.
  • Establishes goals, action plans, timelines, and expectations with department leadership for successful team performance.

Essential Duties

  • Collaborates with creative teams to produce promotional content and execute digital components of KCLS storytelling opportunities and campaigns.
  • Participates in any phase of the development process, including composing draft content, revising the contributions of others, and delivering final proofing.
  • Plans and manages advertising campaigns across digital, print, and social media platforms, serving as a liaison between KCLS and advertising agency.
  • Oversees ad content generation and placement in collaboration with advertising firm.
  • Produces and oversees digital media content calendar, including social media, email content, and web content.
  • Conducts in-depth research on consumer behavior and market trends to enhance KCLS support and use in service area.
  • Focuses on brand positioning in the market and alignment with promotional goals. Provides brand management guidance to the department in the development of communications materials.
  • Develops promotional materials to be distributed by KCLS staff.
  • Creates and maintains marketing procedures, best practices, templates, workflows, and checklists.
  • Coordinates marketing communication that supports high profile events for KCLS.
  • Reaches diverse audiences and communities with external communication that support the library as a welcoming and inclusive place.
  • Selects, coaches, develops, and manages performance for members of the assigned work team.
  • Establishes goals, action plans, timelines, and expectations with department leadership for successful team performance.

Secondary Duties

  • Maintains back-up support to direct reports and related positions as needed.
  • Delivers presentations on subject matter work.
  • Attends meetings, trainings, and serves on various committees as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Desired Minimum Qualification

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, or related field.
    • Five years of experience in marketing roles, preferably with experience in digital marketing, content development, advertising, and/or photo and video direction.
    • Three years of experience leading or managing a team or campaign.
  • Knowledge and Skills:
    • Working knowledge of strategic marketing best practices.
    • Working knowledge of content production and ideation.
    • Working knowledge of digital marketing tools.
    • Skilled in writing short and long form content.
    • Skilled in collaborating with audio/visual experts in content production.
    • Confident communicator and presenter with interest in teaching others.
    • Proficient in marketing platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, HubSpot, Adobe Creative Suite).
    • Well-developed verbal, active listening, and written communication skills with various and diverse audiences.
    • Demonstrated collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
    • Flexible and adaptive to changing needs.
    • Critical thinking skills and sound judgement.
    • Organizational and time management skills with a focus on quality and attention to detail.
    • Skills to work on several projects at the same time while keeping track of progress, challenges, and deadlines.
