Marketing Automation Manager
About the role
First Orion is looking for a Marketing Automation Manager to own the systems that power our marketing. Reporting to the Head of Marketing, you'll be the operator and architect of our marketing technology stack — the person who makes HubSpot, Salesforce, GA4, Databricks, Google AdWords, and Webflow work together, and who turns the campaigns our content and creative teams design into reliable, automated, well-targeted programs. This is a hands-on technical role focused on building workflows, configuring triggers, managing data and segmentation, protecting deliverability, and ensuring flawless campaign execution across the customer lifecycle.
You'll serve as the central operational resource for any team that needs to reach customers through automated channels (email, RCS, outbound BDR), coordinating requests from Marketing, Support, and Product to ensure every send is correctly built, targeted, timed, and compliant.
Responsibilities
- Marketing Automation & Workflow Architecture: Design and build sophisticated automation in HubSpot, including lead-scoring models, lifecycle-stage progressions, behavioral triggers, nurture sequences, and internal notification flows. Own how leads are scored, qualified, routed, and handed to Sales, tuning logic as the funnel evolves.
- Lifecycle & Event-Driven Decisioning: Map and instrument the customer lifecycle end-to-end, turning events (form submissions, sign-ups, portal logins, product usage) into automation that responds to real behavior. Influence scoring, segmentation, routing, and outreach timing based on these signals.
- Marketing Technology Stack Management: Serve as the primary administrator and power user of HubSpot (Marketing Hub, Data Hub, CRM). Manage integrations with Salesforce, Webflow, GA4, and Databricks via APIs/webhooks, and proactively identify tools/workarounds to improve efficiency. Follow First Orion’s implementation process for new integrations, partnering with IT/Security.
- Campaign Deployment & Execution: Build, configure, and deploy email and campaign assets from content/creative teams, including behavioral triggers, A/B tests, segmentation, and deliverability optimization. Own the technical execution from asset to live program.
- Multi-Channel Messaging (Email, SMS & RCS): Operate RCS programs alongside email, selecting the right channel for each use case. Manage technical setup, integrations, deliverability, and consent for all channels, with a focus on branded, trusted messaging.
- Consent, Compliance & Contact Governance: Own rules governing contact eligibility, channels, and timing. Build compliance into workflows (suppression logic, frequency caps, quiet hours) to align with CAN-SPAM, CASL, TCPA, GDPR, CCPA, and carrier (10DLC) requirements. Partner with Legal as needed.
- Data Integrity & Integrations: Ensure clean data flow across HubSpot and Salesforce (field mapping, sync rules, conflict resolution) and maintain tracking/tagging for downstream analytics. Partner with Marketing Analysts to ensure data reliability.
- Cross-Functional Communications Execution: Operational owner for automated customer communications (product updates, service notifications, surveys) from Support, Product, and other teams. Ensure requests are correctly built, targeted, and timed.
Requirements
- 4–6 years of experience in marketing operations, marketing automation, or a martech-focused role.
- Deep, hands-on expertise with HubSpot Marketing Hub (complex workflows, custom properties, lead scoring, troubleshooting integrations).
- Experience with Salesforce CRM and managing the HubSpot–Salesforce integration (data sync, field mapping, conflict resolution).
- Experience with API integrations, webhook configurations, or middleware tools.
- Willingness to work within company policy for new integrations/tools, partnering with IT/Security.
- Working knowledge of Webflow or similar CMS platforms.
- Comfort with HTML/CSS for email-template QA and troubleshooting rendering issues.
- Solid understanding of email deliverability, segmentation, and list hygiene.
- Experience designing lead-scoring models and mapping behavioral events to lifecycle stages/automation.
- Hands-on experience with SMS (and ideally RCS) marketing, including channel provisioning and use cases.
- Working knowledge of outbound contact rules (CAN-SPAM, TCPA, CASL, GDPR/CCPA) and building opt-in/opt-out logic into automation.
- A hacker mentality: creative, scrappy solutions to complex technical marketing problems.
- Strong organizational and project-management skills, balancing competing priorities.
- Self-directed work style: proactively identify and execute tasks without waiting to be asked.
Nice to have
- HubSpot certifications (Marketing Software, Marketing Hub Implementation, etc.).
- Familiarity with GA4 and data platforms like Databricks or SQL (enough to partner with analytics).
- Experience with SMS/RCS platforms (e.g., Twilio) and 10DLC/carrier registration.
- Familiarity with messaging-compliance frameworks (TCPA, CTIA, CASL) and consent-management tools.
- Background in B2B, SaaS, or telecom/technology industries.
- Experience with A/B testing frameworks and conversion-rate optimization.
- Exposure to programmatic or account-based marketing strategies.
