Market Manager
About the role
As a Market Manager, you'll play a critical leadership role in driving operational excellence, developing exceptional leaders, and delivering outstanding business results across a multi-district market. Reporting to the Regional Director of Operations, you'll provide strategic leadership to 4–6 District Managers, overseeing all aspects of sales, profitability, talent development, customer experience, and operational execution across your market.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support an assigned market of approximately 4–6 districts with full profit and loss responsibility.
- Drive sales growth, profitability, operational excellence, and execution of company initiatives across all assigned districts.
- Maintain high standards for store appearance, customer experience, merchandising, inventory presentation, signage, and operational execution.
- Monitor key performance indicators including sales, expenses, shrink, inventory, cash controls, labor, and operational trends to identify opportunities and drive performance improvements.
- Partner closely with District Managers to develop and execute action plans that improve operational and financial results.
- Ensure consistent execution of company programs, merchandising strategies, and operational standards across the market.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, coach, and develop high-performing District Managers.
- Build strong leadership pipelines through succession planning and ongoing talent development.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide regular coaching and feedback, and create individualized development plans for District Managers.
- Foster an inclusive, high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Develop organizational bench strength to support future leadership needs across the market.
- Partner with the Regional Director to effectively manage market operating budgets and financial performance.
- Analyze financial statements, operating reports, and business metrics to make informed decisions and improve profitability.
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities while ensuring disciplined expense management.
- Prepare and communicate operational and financial business updates as required.
- Build strong partnerships with Regional Operations leadership and cross-functional business partners.
- Communicate company priorities, initiatives, and expectations effectively throughout the organization.
- Serve as a visible leader who models Dollar Tree's values and commitment to respectful service.
Requirements
- Five (5) or more years of progressive retail leadership experience with responsibility for multiple locations.
- Demonstrated success leading leaders, including direct management of District Managers or similar multi-unit field leadership roles.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing sales, expenses, inventory, shrink, labor, and operating budgets.
- Proven ability to recruit, develop, coach, and retain high-performing leadership teams.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound business decisions using operational and financial data.
- Outstanding leadership, communication, interpersonal, planning, and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize competing priorities and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and mobile technology platforms.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Five (5)+ years of senior retail leadership experience overseeing multiple store locations and leading leaders with multi-store responsibility.
Travel Requirements
Valid driver's license required. Ability to travel up to 75%, including overnight travel as business needs require.
Pay
Salary Range: $120k-$130k base + bonus + equity
