About the role
We are seeking a Laboratory Director to lead the operations of our state-of-the-art laboratories at our growing network of small-format hospitals. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, this position will oversee all aspects of laboratory operations, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective, and timely services.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and direct the overall operation of the Laboratory Department.
- Ensure services are of the best quality, cost-contained, and expedited.
- Recognize and refer results or problems requiring Pathologist consultation.
- Absorb and maintain physical facilities, equipment, and supplies necessary for patient care.
- Initiate and implement improved service methods and direct their execution.
- Develop and manage the budget for the department.
- Communicate with physicians, staff, and administration.
- Interact professionally with patients and families.
- Collaborate with other departments to improve patient care and performance.
- Establish and maintain standards of performance and ensure competency and appropriate licensure of personnel.
- Coordinate departmental in-service training.
- Communicate administrative directives to appropriate personnel.
- Promote effective intradepartmental relationships.
- Develop, interpret, and enforce Laboratory Services procedures.
- Maintain and interpret hospital policies and procedures in accordance with CLIA, COLA, and DNV regulations.
- Participate in planning programs and safety measures for chemical and biological hazards, fire, and disasters.
- Attend and participate in hospital committees as appropriate.
- Implement, monitor, and evaluate performance improvement and CQI activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biological/Physical Sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
- Maintain Certification as Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathology) or equivalent, required.
- Current state licensure as required by the state in which practicing, required.
- Qualification as Lab Director and Technical Consultant in a moderately complex lab as defined by CLIA '88, required.
- 5+ years’ experience working in a clinical laboratory environment.
- 5+ years supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory environment with Quality Assurance, statistical Quality Control, and laboratory regulations/accreditation requirements, required.
Qualifications
- Pennsylvania Candidates Act 33 (Child Abuse History Clearance), & Act 73 (FBI Fingerprint Criminal History Clearance) completed within the last 5 years, or must be obtained prior to start date.
