About the role

Empowers operational ownership at the campus level while maintaining system standardization and quality. Fosters a culture of excellence through clinical alignment on best practices. Contributes to and implements strategic plans and goals throughout the laboratory service line within the division.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies strategic synergies and facilitates cross-functional business focus, planning, and data analysis to support growth opportunities and strategic initiatives.
  • Follows and enforces appropriate safety policies, including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling.
  • Leads and participates in laboratory performance improvement activities, promoting team building, employee engagement, patient satisfaction, and safety.
  • Acts as a liaison between campus and laboratory executive leaders to ensure collaboration across multiple disciplines.
  • Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff to accomplish organizational goals and objectives.
  • Exercises independent decision-making processes to identify, plan, and execute goals.
  • Oversees laboratory business at assigned facilities, including financial oversight in budgetary planning, capital acquisition, and financial review.
  • Directs and oversees operations of assigned campus laboratories in all specialties, including Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion, Microbiology, and Pathology.
  • Collaborates with physician leadership to lead the clinical team in achieving quality care and patient satisfaction.
  • Promotes communication and collaboration of interdisciplinary processes focusing on safety and best-practice outcomes.
  • Contributes to unity and standardization across the organization to ensure consistency in patient care, experience, and quality.

Requirements

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, capable of articulating complex information in understandable terms to all levels of staff, including the ability to coordinate and spearhead meetings and serve as a speaker with good presentation skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to create Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of electronic patient medical records.
  • Ability to work in a matrix-management environment to achieve organizational goals.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to provide effective leadership for supervisory, technical, and support personnel, and to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with various departments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates positive communication skills and standards of behaviors, with the ability to interact with the public and staff at all levels.
  • In-depth understanding of laboratory operations, medical testing procedures, and administration.
  • Knowledge of Cerner/EPIC systems (preferred).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's [Required]
  • Master's [Preferred]
  • Field Of Study Bachelor's in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution or bachelor's degree equivalency with 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 semester hours of science courses that include: 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology; and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination; and have a laboratory training program that includes: completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES or the CAAHEP (this training may be included in the 6 semester hours listed above); or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs testing or successful completion of at least a 5-week official us military medical laboratory procedures training course and currently hold or have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of medical laboratory specialist (laboratory technician); or qualified and served as high complexity testing personnel on or before April 24, 1995 in a CLIA-certified laboratory as of December 28, 2024, and have done so continuously since December 28, 2024.
