About the role
The Assistant Market Grille Department Manager position at Hy-Vee is responsible for assisting the Department Manager in presenting fresh, innovative, and high-quality products competitively priced to customers. This role also involves ensuring a positive company image through courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service.
Responsibilities
- Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by greeting customers and addressing their needs.
- Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing items, loading/unloading heavy items, and passing along customer suggestions or requests.
- Answers the telephone and provides friendly, helpful service to customers.
- Works with co-workers to maintain a pleasant work environment and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Checks orders, sets up timelines, and assigns tasks for completion.
- Rotates and replenishes food display cases.
- Addresses issues within the Market Grille area, such as coffee, salad cases, cleanliness, kitchen repairs, and safety.
- Maintains proper staffing levels and monitors department overtime.
- Controls inventory and ensures supply areas are clean and orderly.
- Handles catering contracts and follows food safety guidelines.
- Assists in monthly inventory, including posting invoices, helping with counts, and calculating intra and inter-store transactions.
- Adheres to proper sanitation procedures and maintains a clean, neat work area.
- Trains employees in department duties and assists in other areas of the store as needed.
- Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Instructs, assigns, reviews, and plans work of others.
- Maintains standards, coordinates activities, and allocates personnel.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent with a preference for Sanitation (Food Safety) courses.
- One year of similar or related experience.
- Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.
- Must be able to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform visual tasks including vision from less than 20 inches and more than 20 feet, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.

Pay
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. The exact salary will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications and Hy-Vee's compensation structure.
Schedule
The schedule for this position is typically Monday through Saturday, with varying hours depending on the department needs. Specific shifts and hours will be discussed during the interview process.
