Market Director, Patient Safety & Risk Management

Responsibilities

• Develops, oversees, and executes operational plans for the comprehensive hospital-based internal risk management program across the NC market.
• Incorporates risk identification analysis, trending, and internal claim management oversight for the NC market and related interests.
• Assumes responsibility and direction for patient safety transformation, leading efforts to develop a culture of safety and identify opportunities to enhance high reliability and patient safety across the NC market.
• Ensures coordination with Corporate Compliance, Legal, Human Resources, department managers, and external agencies as required.
• Ensures alignment with applicable state statutes and regulations.
• Conducts thorough assessments to identify areas needing improvement.
• Analyzes data from patient safety incidents and near misses.
• Designs a patient safety program with policies, procedures, and protocols aimed at reducing errors and enhancing patient safety.
• Ensures the program aligns with national and international standards and guidelines.
• Implements the program across the organization, including training staff and integrating safety practices into daily operations.
• Continuously monitors the effectiveness of the program through regular audits, feedback, and performance metrics.
• Evaluates outcomes to identify successes and areas for further improvement.
• Ensures compliance with standards and guidelines set by regulatory bodies, accreditation organizations, and best practice frameworks.
• Provides ongoing education and training for staff on patient safety principles and practices.
• Establishes clear reporting mechanisms for safety incidents and near misses.
• Communicates findings and improvements to all stakeholders, including staff, patients, and regulatory bodies.
• Led a multidisciplinary team to foster a culture of safety.

Requirements

• Skilled in the identification and prevention of potential risks, including complaint resolution.
• Extensive experience in the investigation and analysis of incidents and claims.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
• Ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, visitors and the community.
• Basic knowledge and ability to work with personal computers and software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Risk Management software applications.

Skills

• Knowledge of healthcare-related fields applicable to clinical licensure.
• Experience in the investigation and analysis of incidents and claims.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field.
• Master's degree in a healthcare-related field (preferred).
• 5+ years of clinical experience in acute care setting, preferably tertiary setting.
• 5+ years of experience in healthcare risk management.
• Registered Nurse (RN), Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNPC), State Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), Occupational Therapist (OT), Physical Therapist (PT), Physician Assistant (PA), Licensed Paramedic (PARA), Licensed Pharmacist (RPH), Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM), or Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS).
