About the role

As our Market CMO, you will provide leadership and direction to medical staff in the assigned CommonSpirit (CSH) medical center or hospital, driving CSH’s commitment to high quality, safe and cost-effective healthcare consistent with organizational objectives and community needs. Reporting to the Region CMO Northwest, you will serve as a liaison between physicians, physician/hospital management, community organizations, and VMFH counterparts, collaborating on medical affairs strategic planning, provider engagement, and organization-wide initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee activities to improve clinical performance, patient safety, and operational efficiencies.
  • Ensure timely conversion to evidence-based medicine and compliance with corporate policies/bylaws and regulatory/accreditation requirements.
  • Directly oversee hospital-based medical directors and foster a collegial, mutually beneficial relationship between medical staff and hospital administration.
  • Collaborate with medical staff to develop and implement new clinical systems/programs that enhance services and raise the standard of care.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards, policies, procedures, protocols, and communications to ensure compliance with organizational values and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve on the CSH Oregon Expanded Executive Leadership Team, providing strategic vision and leadership to standardize, integrate, and enhance continuum of services.
  • Develop and present comprehensive recommendations regarding the viability of systems/initiatives based on market demographics and volume projections.
  • Oversee the execution of quality process improvement initiatives to achieve business objectives.
  • Anticipate evolving factors affecting current/future needs and participate in strategic initiatives to support growth, standardization, and operational excellence.
  • Ensure optimization of information technology to support business objectives and direct the development of strategic/tactical plans with accountability for achievement.
  • Participate in determining operating/capital resources, develop annual budgets, and exercise cost control to stay within budget.
  • Direct preparation of financial, budget, activity, and productivity reports, keeping stakeholders apprised of budgetary impacts.
  • Direct and evaluate subordinate management staff, ensuring adequate staffing, training, and performance management.
  • Collaborate with CSH Marketing/Communications to develop marketing strategies and promotional materials that enhance awareness, expand market share, and increase revenues.
  • Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with medical directors, physicians, patients, supply vendors, and external entities to foster revenue enhancement and improved customer service.
  • Support St. Anthony Pendleton for Medical Affairs, Credentialing, Case Review, utilization, and other duties as requested by the Region CMO.

Requirements

  • Licensed Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy.
  • Five years of leadership experience as a CMO, ACMO, quality officer, or medical director equivalent, including involvement in medical staff and quality improvement activities.
  • Knowledge of performance improvement methodologies such as VMPS, Lean, or Six Sigma, including experience measuring, assessing, and improving service and process performance in a medical center.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One to three years of physician group experience.
  • Involvement in healthcare service delivery research and/or decision analysis.
