Maritime Systems Technician
About the role
We are seeking a Maritime Systems Technician to support the rapid prototyping and fielding of Navy's future uncrewed, robotic, and autonomous systems. This position involves electro-mechanical design, fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting of complex systems.
Responsibilities
- Provide electro-mechanical design, fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting for a variety of complex systems at APL and on field tests.
- Support coordination and fabrication of parts and assemblies with the machine shop, engineers, and other technicians within, or outside of, the lab.
- Support field and at-sea testing onboard Navy platforms to include site surveys, ship checks, installation, test and maintenance, and recovery of installed systems.
- Coordinate shop/high bay spaces, various vehicles/boats used for testing, and complex material lists to support test efforts.
- Manage and track fabrication work orders and associated parts for assembly, delivery, and shipment purposes.
Requirements
- Relevant experience in industry or military, fabricating, assembling, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing electro-mechanical systems.
- Strong organizational skills with assembling material lists for complex systems - including specifying components, arranging logistics with other technicians, and supporting electrical tasks.
- Ability to work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced work environment with tight delivery schedules.
- Willingness and ability to work in classified laboratories, travel to test locations in the desert, mountains, and/or onboard US Navy or research vessels for 15% of your time and you can lift over 50 lbs.
- Able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance.
Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications: Relevant experience in industry or military, fabricating, assembling, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing electro-mechanical systems.
- Additional qualifications: An Associate Degree from a two-year college or technical trade school, 5+ years of relevant experience in industry or military, experience with electromechanical maintenance on large vehicles, experience with design, fabrication, integration, testing, and deployment of complex electromechanical systems, experience supporting at-sea tests from ocean-going vessels, experience in production, manufacturing, warehousing, large-scale equipment logistics, and/or maritime site work, experience with electronics fabrication tools, experience with Quality Assurance practices and safe operation and/or fabrication within working environments, experience with Navy electronics and electro-mechanical systems, active Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
