About the role
The Elevator Support Unit (ESU) seeks a skilled tradesperson to support contracted work on weapon and aircraft elevators and their systems on U.S. Navy ships. The position involves a variety of skilled trades, maintenance, and technical tasks.
Responsibilities
- Supports ESU by performing welding, brazing, and flame-cutting tasks on plate or pipe.
- Ensures shop safety and maintains a clean work area.
- Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies for welding.
- Maintains and calibrates welding equipment.
- Performs routine inspections and repairs on tools and equipment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, with 6+ years of related experience.
- Current or prior experience welding SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DBIDS badge and security clearance.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow detailed instructions and technical documents.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment.
- Able to work in extreme temperatures, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions, and in confined spaces.
- Able to perform duties involving high heat, noise, and dirty conditions.
Qualifications
- Completion of a formal course in welding or certification.
- Experience as a production welder in the Navy or as a civilian production welder supporting Navy ship repair or new construction.
- Ability to demonstrate welding proficiency through qualification testing.
Skills
- Proficiency in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW).
- Knowledge of brazing and flame-cutting techniques.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools commonly used in the welding trade.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

$52,780.00 - $60,320.00 annually
