About the role
We are seeking a full-time Marine/RV Field Service Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical support and training on specifications, capabilities, and operation of Garmin marine/RV products to external customers, Garmin associates, boat OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), RV (Recreational Vehicle) OEMs, OEM dealers and installation dealers.
Responsibilities
- Resolve internal, external, and commercial marine/RV Product Support inquiries
- Become highly knowledgeable in specifications, capabilities, and operation of Marine/RV segment products
- Manage product issue cases encompassing all of the marine/RV segment
- Analyze, monitor, document, communicate and report marine/RV product quality trends
- Partner with Quality and Engineering departments to convey impact of field and customer reported issues while documenting and communicating resolution to the Product Support organization
- Use strong written and verbal communication skills to summarize and explain complex hardware and software issues to engineering and other relevant product groups locally and globally
- Develop and own marine/RV support training related to installation, calibration, set-up and operation
- Travel to customers facilities to provide regular on-site support of Marine/RV Installations
- Mentor and train new/developing Field Service Engineers
- Review owner’s manuals, installation manuals, and maintenance manuals for completeness, technical accuracy, and areas likely to be misinterpreted
- Identify and recommend improvements in Garmin marine/RV products, documentation, and procedures
- Create regular monthly reports for on-site support
- Accompany Sales on OEM and dealer sales calls and assist in the specification of Garmin or Fusion Entertainment products for sales quotes
- As an embedded Garmin technical representative, ensure installations meet Garmin standards for quality and functionality
- Maintain professional and courteous demeanor with all OEM personnel
- Respect and observe the rules and policies of the OEM while onsite
- On-site support of Marine/RV OEM Installations and troubleshooting in manufacturing environment
- Verify reported defective products at Customer’s facility
- Train customer’s associates in the installation and operation of Garmin Marine/RV, Fusion Entertainment equipment and other related items
- Meet all of productions needs related to Garmin including:
- Coordinate schedule with the production line and sea trials
- Resolve problems that arise
- Adjust priorities at a moment’s notice
- Maintain communication with Garmin headquarters including:
- Document and complete reports on the work performed
- Reporting failures and tracking trends
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree or equivalent military/trade school, or NMEA certification AND a minimum of 4 years of experience, performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this role, including 4 years installation and troubleshooting OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Ability to travel to customer, OEM, manufacturing locations or other Garmin needed events
- Strong ability to troubleshoot, install and resolve issues with Garmin Marine/RV products in office and field
- Must demonstrate a high level of interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills to work effectively across functional and organizational lines
- Must demonstrate a superior customer-oriented attitude
- Must possess a demonstrated proficiency using personal computers and software applications, including Microsoft Word & Outlook
- Must demonstrate an ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
- Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment

Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- 4+ years of Garmin Marine/RV product installation experience
- Previous experience in a Marine/RV OEM or installing dealer facility
- NMEA Basic/NMEA Advanced Certification
