Marine Mechanical Engineer (Auxiliary), Journeyman

About the Role

THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated mid-level Marine Mechanical Engineer (Auxiliary) to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG)’s Ship Design Team in Baltimore, MD. An ideal candidate will have prior experience with design, optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, and/or weight handling systems calculations and analyses, and familiarity with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs, standards, and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and documentation for the design, development, and evaluation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment, including auxiliary systems, hydraulics, weight handling equipment, rudders, piping, pumps, valves, and HVAC.
• Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
• Conduct analysis and design of auxiliary systems, lead development of technical data packages, and perform reviews.
• Conduct trade studies.

Location

Full-time onsite at USCG Surface Forces Logistics Center (SFLC) in Baltimore, MD. Up to 10% travel is anticipated for ship checks.

Physical Activity

Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments may require traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.

Pay

The anticipated pay range for this position is $80,000 – $110,000. Actual compensation will be based on individual factors including education, qualifications, and experience.

Requirements

• Eligibility for a SECRET Security Clearance is required. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant technical, engineering, or marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
• At least three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in Marine Mechanical fields.
• Overall experience must include at least three (3) years of documented experience with design, optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, and/or weight handling systems calculations and analyses.
• Familiarity with ABS, USN, and industry standards relating to shipboard auxiliary systems.
• Proficiency with common productivity software.
• Strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience related to U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs.
• Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs.
