Responsibilities

  • Perform welding and mechanical maintenance and training to assist shipboard personnel in the operation, maintenance, and repair of specific items of engineering systems/equipment onboard USN Surface Ships.
  • Master understanding of production and processes.
  • Responsible for interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors, and ability to provide work direction to others.
  • May manage one or more multiple jobs.
  • Completes comprehension of specialty trades functions and tools.
  • Performs a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks.
  • Develop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports, and task or trip reports.
  • Schedules, reports and briefs customers and senior management.
  • Performs quality inspections on finished products.
  • Performs duties outside of specialty to completion installation or work assignments.

Requirements

  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 8 years of related experience, to include specific systems expertise.
  • Must have experience as a Shipboard Marine Welder (MIG and Brazing) and mechanical trades specialty with 8 or more years of shipboard maintenance and repair experience.
  • Must be able to read and interpret equipment and systems, ship drawings and ship technical documents and manuals.
  • Must be competent in the use of mechanical equipment and tools in corrective repairs efforts to accomplish ship repairs.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Must be physically able to climb and work on ships in an industrial environment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD Confidential security clearance.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes.
  • Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
  • May require riding ships at sea for extended periods.
  • May require wearing a respirator.
  • Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.

Skills

  • MIG, TIG, ARC Welder and Brazing Certifications.
  • Recent Marine Welder/Mechanic shipboard experience on USN ships.
  • A current, valid DOD Confidential security clearance or higher.

Pay

Anticipated Salary Range: $67,687.00 - $72,800.00

Full Time/Hourly/Non-Exempt
