About the role

We are seeking a Marine Mechanic to join our SECAP team in San Diego, CA. This full-time, non-exempt position focuses on troubleshooting and repairing HM&E (Hull, Mechanical & Electrical) systems, including hydraulics, valves, and pumps for installed systems such as Main Drainage, Aqueous Film Form Foam (AFFF), Counter Measure Washdown (CMWD), and Fire-main systems. The role also involves maintaining auxiliary equipment, including HP and LP Air systems, Trash room equipment, Hydraulic equipment, and the VCHT system. This position does not provide relocation assistance.

Responsibilities

• Assist ship’s force personnel with shipboard mechanical troubleshooting and repair on Damage Control (DC) and engineering systems.
• Utilize an “On-Hands” approach to enhance Sailor individual strengths and benefit both the Sailor and the command.
• Assist Ships Force in identifying proper materials and manuals required for shipboard system repairs.
• Apply comprehensive understanding of production and processes to complete assignments.
• Interface with customers, manage subcontractors, and provide work direction to others.
• Perform complex and non-routine tasks.
• Develop and use technical documents, including controlled work packages, formal work processes, test documents, reports, and task or trip reports.
• Schedule, report, and brief customers and senior management.
• Perform duties outside of specialty to complete installation or work assignments.

Requirements

• High School education, Trade School, or equivalent, with 6 years of related shipboard mechanical experience.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
• Shipboard maintenance and repair experience.
• Ability to read and interpret ship drawings, technical documents, and manuals.
• Competency in using mechanical equipment and tools for corrective repair efforts.
• Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
• Physically able to climb and work on ships in an industrial environment.
• Start date contingent upon approved ID for base access, required for this position and continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent Marine Mechanical shipboard experience onboard U.S. Navy surface ships.
• U.S. Navy DC/HT/MR/MM/EN technical or professional training and/or certifications.
• A current, valid DoD security clearance.

Physical Requirements

• Able to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes (minimum 30 lbs).
• Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, and under industrial conditions.
• Able to work in confined spaces and perform duties in high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions.
• May work aloft or over the sides of vessels.
• May ride ships at sea for extended periods.
• May require wearing a respirator.
• Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.

Pay

Anticipated salary range: $58,058.00 – $63,856.00. The listed range is a good-faith estimate based on role location, expectations, and responsibilities. Bonus or other non-recurrent compensation may occasionally be offered for qualified positions.
