This role supports the Elevator Support Unit (ESU) in San Diego, CA, focusing on contracted skilled trades work for Weapon Elevators and Aircraft Elevators on U.S. Navy ships.

About the role

This full-time, non-exempt position involves installing, operating, maintaining, repairing, and modifying shipboard elevator mechanical and hydraulic equipment. Travel within and outside the continental United States is required (26–50%). The anticipated salary range is $60,000–$75,000 annually. Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance is required.

Responsibilities

• Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify shipboard elevator mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
• Perform maintenance and technical support on elevators, elevator doors, integrated systems, subsystems, and software at customer/field locations.
• Analyze and evaluate elevator operations and related performance.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose malfunctions, and perform grooming to resolve issues efficiently.
• Install, upgrade, and remove elevator and elevator door components, ensuring coordination with engineering field changes.
• Apply comprehensive understanding of production processes to complete assignments.
• Interface with customers, manage subcontractors, and provide work direction to others.
• Develop and use technical documents, including controlled work packages, formal work processes, test documents, reports, and task/trip reports.
• Schedule, report, and brief customers and senior management.
• Perform duties outside of specialty to complete installations or work assignments.

Requirements

• High School education, Trade School, or equivalent, with 6 years of related experience.
• Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
• Experience in troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and testing of mechanical systems.
• Ability to read drawings and schematics.
• Experience conducting on-site equipment installation while following safety, quality control, and testing procedures.
• Ability to calibrate and make minor repairs on tools/equipment.
• Ability to obtain and maintain base access credentials and a DoD Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in maintenance and repair of shipboard aircraft elevators, ordnance handling equipment, or vertical package conveyors.
• Experience with marine electro-mechanical and/or hydraulic systems.
• Prior shipboard experience.
• Current or active DoD Secret clearance or higher.
• Related technical training, degrees, or certifications.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes (minimum 30 lbs).
• Able to work on and climb ladders, in extreme temperatures, aboard ships, in shipyards, and under industrial conditions.
• Able to work in confined spaces, high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions.
• May work aloft or over the sides of vessels.
• May ride ships at sea for extended periods.
• May require wearing a respirator.
• Travel within and outside the continental United States may be required.
