About the role

You will serve as a MARINE MACHINERY MECHANIC SUPERVISOR I in the Mechanical Shop (Code 930), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the quantity and quality of the work performed by subordinates, applying expert knowledge of the methods, techniques, processes, procedures, tools, materials, and practices of the marine machinery mechanic trade.

You will be responsible for carrying out EEO policies and communicating support of these policies to subordinates and coordinate efforts with EEO official during the development and execution of policies civilian personnel.

You will assure equality in determining qualifications, selections, assignments, training, promotions, details, discipline and awards to employees.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals).
  • You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

  • Ability to apply knowledge of trade theory and techniques in order to lead journeyman mechanics through instruction and demonstration of proper work methods.
  • Ability to apply detailed technical knowledge of work operations and apply same in leading mechanics concerning methods for jobs to be accomplished.
  • Ability to apply operational theory, check-out procedures, and have knowledge and skill to perform marine machinery mechanic work.
  • Ability to articulate technical knowledge, understanding and skill to co-workers working on these components/systems.
  • Ability to maintain current technical knowledge and communicating changes to workers under his/her leadership.
  • Ability to work with various components, tanks, and systems associated with naval submarines and surface ships.
  • Ability to utilize marine machinery mechanic systems and equipment.
