Manufacturing Systems Engineer
About the role
Leidos’ Defense Sector Manufacturing is seeking a Manufacturing Systems Engineer to join our defense sector manufacturing support team located in Huntsville, AL. This role focuses on standardizing our Solumina MES (Manufacturing Execution System) and developing analytics to create KPIs and dashboards for monitoring success. The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert (SME) to train over 60 manufacturing engineers across multiple facilities, ensuring adherence to standardized processes in Solumina MES, Windchill, and CostPoint systems.
This is a key role in enabling our defense sector to scale operations with standardized processes, including process plan templates, operation dependencies, data collection methods, discrepancy procedures, serialization, and runtime/set-up time methodology on routings.
Responsibilities
- Manage Manufacturing Orders to meet project schedules.
- Implement procedures and techniques to transform raw materials into finished products efficiently.
- Use MES software (Solumina) to track, monitor, and control manufacturing processes for quality, efficiency, and compliance.
- Generate and maintain Manufacturing Bill of Materials (mBOMs).
- Create routings in Solumina to ensure accurate run times.
- Identify and execute continuous improvement projects.
- Reduce risks in production processes.
- Plan and maintain production flow through MRP systems, including change management and make/buy designation.
- Execute Configuration & Data Management processes for tracking changes.
- Define manufacturing processes, procedures, and production flow for assembly, integration, and testing of space products.
- Coordinate production workflow, organize resources, and schedule activities to meet production goals.
- Resolve production issues such as configuration changes, engineering changes, material shortages, and schedule priorities.
- Monitor production status and report job status to management using spreadsheets and custom reports.
- Optimize production processes from raw materials to finished products for efficiency and quality.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality Assurance, Operations Leads, and Inventory Control.
- Expedite jobs and resolve material shortages.
- Manage ISO9001/AS9100 processes within the department.
- Develop training materials and train end users on standardized processes.
Requirements
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university and 4 to 8 years of prior relevant experience (or a Master’s with 2 to 6 years of experience).
- Demonstrated experience with serialized components requiring non-conformance dispositioning.
- Hands-on experience with Costpoint, including ECNs, effectivity dates, substitutions, and PLM/ERP/MES software interactions.
- 4+ years of experience in manufacturing, assembly, and integration of electrical, electromechanical, structural, and/or mechanical components.
- Experience with phantom/synthetic items on mBOMs and their impact on MRP.
- Familiarity with unit of measure conversion challenges.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including drafting SOWs for KPI reports.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
- Resident of North Alabama or willing to relocate to Huntsville, AL.
- US Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to query and analyze data using Excel VBA, Power BI, or SQL.
- Experience with digital engineering tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Agile, and Scrum.
- MRP experience with unit of measure conversions and order policies.
- Knowledge of Industry 4.0 and IIoT methods for data collection and product traceability.
- Experience with manufacturing, assembly, integration, and test processes, including procedure development.
- Experience with ERP/PLM/MES systems (Deltek, Costpoint, Solumina, Windchill).
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Pay
Pay Range: $73,450.00 - $132,775.00. The Leidos pay range is a general guideline and may vary based on responsibilities, education, experience, skills, and internal equity.
